Summary: Bella brought a present for Jake, and it was supposed to be a surprise.
Special Delivery
”Leah, did you get anything for Jacob's birthday?” I asked, panicking.
”Yeah, why,” she answered, playing with Luke.
“I ordered a few things online for the pack's camping trip, and it hasn't arrived yet,” I whined.
”Don’t worry. It should be here soon,” she reassured me.
I hoped she was right. It would be crappy if his wife didn’t get him anything. I knew I had ordered it three weeks ago, knowing it took two weeks to get to our house.
”Bella, did you make sure you told them the right address?” she asked.
”I thought did,” I answered, as I looked out our bay window.
”Yes, it did happen to me once -- I brought something for Sam, and it didn’t show up until later that night,” she said.
I stood up, walked over to the window, and looked out. I was thinking, “What if Leah was here, and she found out it really wasn’t for their camping trip? How embarrassing…” It was a personal gift. I knew if it would come while she’s here, she wouldn't go back to the pack and talk about it.
”Bella, I am sorry. I can't stay. We got a sitter -- we have a date night,” she said, as she patted me on the back.
I walked Leah to the front door and watched her walk down the street. I went to sit on one of our rockers hoping it would show up before he got home. I was about to give up when I saw the Fedex truck driving up to our house. I stood up and met him halfway up our driveway.
He handed me the package and said, “Special delivery” and left. I took a deep breath and headed back in the house. I hoped he liked this. It was something that we hadn't tried, and of course, it was something for the camping trip also.
I wrapped the one gift I got him for the trip, and I hung the other one up. **Wink wink.**
I waited for Jake to come home to see his expression.
*FWARS*
Once Jake got home, he went upstairs to get cleaned up before dinner. I didn't think he even noticed the swing. I just cracked up, wondering how long it would take him to notice. I was in the kitchen cooking his favorite dinner when he yelled, “What the heck is this?” He walked into our kitchen with just his robe.
“Oh, do you like your birthday present?” I asked, worried.
“That swing is my present,” he answered with a smirk on his face.
“One of your gifts,” I smiled.
”Heck, I love it -- but I love you more.” He kissed me.
I was glad he didn't say, “What kind of gift this is” or, “send it back”. The personal gift turned out to be what he liked, and I was glad Leah wasn’t here. Now I could relax and enjoy his swing. He also liked the other one I bought him for his trip.
Jake's birthday turned out well and it was also fun. **Wink wink!**
