Queen Valdona did not move a single muscle. She is a queen, yes, but still, fear of death cannot be avoided.  She stood completely still, while still hearing the crying child. She bent down slightly, and looked at the edge of the wall, trying to at least get a glimpse of what was lurking behind it.

She pressed her back to the wall and peered over the edge. She saw an armored woman sitting down, obviously holding the child and putting it down, and took caution of the weapons attached to her armor.

Queen Valdona said to herself that the woman she was watching was not the only one that was armed. She positioned her hand in front of the handle of her broadsword and clutched it tightly. She pulled it out of its scabbard in the most silent manner possible and sneaked toward the armored woman.

She was getting nearer her target, and just a few more steps, the broadsword can reach the skin on her back.

Take just one more step, then swing.

She lifted the sword above her head, but pulled herself to stop for a hand with a very large furiously rotating ball of ferocious fire was held directly 3 inches from her face.

“Valdona?”

Queen Valdona scrunched her eyebrows. How does this armored woman know her name? Better yet, why was she not addressed properly by her position? She tilted her head to see who the woman was.

It was Queen Leora.

“Leora?”

Queen Leora extinguished the ball of Flare from her hands and slowly stood up. Queen Valdona lowered her broadsword and stood still. The two queens stared at each other in great surprise.

“SISTER!” both queens exclaimed. They dropped their weapons and ran towards each other for a hug.

“I thought I’d never see you again.” said Queen Leora.

“I thought our soldiers had broken into the castle. I was hoping they had not found you.”

“No, they did not. And I am not going to let them. That is why we have to escape. And quickly.”

“We?” Queen Valdona had forgotten that her sister was previously holding a weeping infant. She looked at Queen Leora, who was smiling, and walked towards the baby.

“He’s handsome.” Implied Queen Valdona. “He has your eyes, Leora. And he has the hands of his father.” She stopped for a bit and looked at her sister. “What is his name?”

“Christophe.”

Queen Valdona smiled after hearing the angelic name, and glanced back to the child. “Christophe. That is a beautiful name.”

The ground shook violently with a loud explosion, making Queen Valdona hold Christophe tighter and closer to protect him. Queen Leora covered her ears from the loud explosion, and then turned around after hearing a thud. She saw her husband thrown and pinned to the ground by an armored Raldo, holding a halberd over its head, but King Helmsley managed to hold it off.

“HELMSLEY!” shouted Queen Leora. “I have to help him!”

“What about your son, Leora?” Queen Valdona immediately asked. Queen Leora stopped and stared blankly into space to think of something. An idea then hit her, though she knew she was going very reluctant to do so.

“Valdona, I need you to do something for me.”

“Anything, sister.”

“I need you to take Christophe away from here. Take him as far away from here as possible.”

“What about you?”

“I shall stay here. I cannot let my husband perish.”

“Leora, this is insane! I will not leave you here! This is one of those few opportunities that we reunite, and I will not let it put to waste!”

“Do you have an alternative?”

“I could always pull the army back. I could foil the plan.”

“But then, Valdona, you are the one who will suffer. From your husband’s wrath. I cannot let that happen.”

Queen Valdona stayed silent and then she looked at the child. Queen Leora glanced at her husband, still pinned down. “We do not have a choice, Valdona.”

Queen Valdona stood up with Christophe and hugged Queen Leora with one arm. “If that is your wish, then it shall be fulfilled.”

Queen Leora smiled. “Worry not, sister. I will live to see you again.”

“I know, Leora. So be careful.” Queen Leora nodded, and the two sisters waved each other goodbye.

As Queen Leora turned around, she focused on the armed Raldo, and concentrated with all her might.

“THUNDAGA!”

A massive bolt of lightning with devastating force hit the Raldo’s back and vaporized it into mere specs of dust.

Meanwhile, Queen Valdona ran as fast as her legs can go. She held Christophe protectively, and stayed on guard in case of an assault.

“Fear not, little one. We will make it out of here.”
