You want me to do what now?! {Chapter 17}
Recap:
His speeches normally went along the lines of if I mated with him then I would love him and that he would be better for me than James and that it didn't matter that I was now a werewolf and yadda, yadda, yadda. But sometimes they wouldn't get into my cell to give me my scheduled doses and there were those rare moments of clarity. In those moments I would cry for my loss of James, fume at the injustice of it all and panic at the inevitable time that they would come and make my mind useless again. But more than any of these things I would plan; I would plan my escape.
James' POV
My paws pounded the hard ground beneath me as I sped through a quiet forest, hours away from home with my pack spread out over the perimeter. None of them dared to talk to me; either because they were respecting my need for silence or they were slightly scared of the red hue that covered my eyes and the relentless murderous thoughts that thrummed through my head.
I raised my nose up and sniffed the air briefly, feeling the all too familiar desperation rise up again before I could push it back down. My Evangeline, my soul mate. I was supposed to protect her but no, I had to be stupid and just let her off on her own recklessly. It's all my fault! I roared this last bit in my head and my pack heard, making small whimpering noises of reassurance but I knew that they thought this was a lost cause, that Evangeline was lost to me. I shook the negative thoughts out of my head before I broke down again and continued following a useless lead.
At first I had tried using the soul mate connection we shared but then found out that it was no use as it was being clouded. That means that she is either drunk or drugged but I don't want to dwell on which one for too long.
"I've got a blood-sucker!" Luke snarled through the mental connection, instantly drawing everyone's attention, causing them to run in the direction of Luke and his new captive. Over the past week, since Evangeline went missing, Luke had become less of the sunny person that we had always known him to be, even when his parents had died, and had gotten angrier, bitter. All of us were suffering; hell Mitchell had even stopped flirting with anything that had knockers.
We all arrived on the scene, roughly at the same time and were all shocked to see Luke in his russet wolf form with a vampire between his jaws, kicking to be put down. The leach had ear length curly hair that was a shocking shade of red and dangled slightly in his emerald green eyes. His build was lean and lanky but he was still unable to hold his own against the fury that Luke was currently unleashing; Luke got lethal when he was angry. We all started snarling in unison and the vampire glanced around at us with a huge gulp of fear. I shifted back to my human form so I could speak.
"Who are you?" I growled, not bothering to tell Luke to put him down.
"Travis." He choked out, still struggling in Luke's jaws. My eyebrows shot up in surprise and suspicion at his instant cooperation. This could be a trap but if it was then it was too late now and I was going to get as much information out of the blood-sucker as was possible.
"Where did you come from?" I snarled as this was still counted as werewolf territory.
"I came from Master Christopher Lyons residence." He told us directly. Everybody in the clearing froze; he was one of Chris' staff. As soon as the realisation hit home my hands were ripping Travis from Luke's jaws and pinning him to a nearby tree by his throat, taking him slightly by surprise.
"Where's Evangeline?" The voice that came out of my mouth was barely human so I was surprised that he could understand me.
"That's the girl in the dungeons, right?" He said, pretending to think deeply about it whilst tapping his chin. I briefly nodded. "Multi-shade brown hair, lovely, mixed eyes, banging body..." He would have continued but I gripped his throat tighter, making sure that he couldn't ever speak such words about my mate again.
