"Sophie?" I hear a voice calling my name. I awake from my day dream to realise I am still in math class. "Sophie?" Mr Johns, my maths teacher repeats, trying to get my attention. I sit up in my seat and look around the room to see everyone laughing at me, especially the popular girls and Jai. I sigh and focus my attention on the teacher. He asks me to come up to the board and finish the equation he had just explained. Luckily I was good at maths. I rose from my seat and headed to the front of the classroom, hearing a few giggles and whispers spread across the room. "Quiet!" Mr John’s demands, handing me the whiteboard marker and guiding me in the right direction. I drowned out the sound of the small giggles and finished the equation, satisfying Mr Johns and the rest of the class.
Finally maths class was over and it was time to go home. Jai and I used to walk home when we were dating, but now we try our hardest to avoid each other. I made my way out the front of the school gates and stared walking in the direction of my house. As i began walking someone ran up beside me and greeted me with a friendly 'hello'. I didn’t bother looking at them until they had finished speaking. It was Jai. In shock I sprinted away from him until I arrived home to find mum and Katie sitting on the lounge watching a movie. As I dropped my bag at the front door, rain started to bucket down. Luckily i ran otherwise i would have been stuck in the rain and I would have been soaking wet. "Hi hunny!" Mum said giving me a comforting smile. Family meant the world to me. Just me, my mum and my sister. Mum slid Katie off her lap and placed her on the couch beside her. She stood up and wrapped her arms around me, giving me a gentle kiss on the forehead. I smile and hug her back tightly.
She let me go and motioned me to go over to the couch where I found mum had made herself and Katie a hot chocolate and some popcorn. "How was school?" I hear mum yell from the kitchen as I make myself comfy on the lounge next to Katie. Katie reacts quickly and rests her head on my lap. I brush my hand over her soft, brown hair as I hesitate to reply. “It was fine.” I reply, letting out a soft sigh. I run my hand down the sleeve of Katie’s flannelette pyjamas to meet her hand and weave my fingers in between hers. Mum walks out of the kitchen with a hot chocolate in one hand and bag of our favourite chocolates. I smile as mum hands me the hot mug and sits down on the couch next to me wrapping her arms around me. She whispers in my ear, “I love you Soph”. “I love you too mum.” I reply before resting my head on her shoulder and falling asleep.
