Friday starts and I am unbelievably jumpy all day. When the bell to release us from choir finally sounds, I grab my stuff as Kaileigh rushes me. We go through the baseball fields gates to get to the back parking lot to find Kaileigh's step brother throwing a ball with his friends. I admire his throw as it sails to the other boy. We sit down under the small pavilion while we wait for Kaileigh's mom, watching vines and laughing.
After an hour of waiting, we pile into the car. Wesley, sitting in the passenger seat. Kaileigh explains we have to go get her two other siblings who are visiting from Texas. Kaileigh turns the radio onto the local pop station and I happen to notice Wesley huff. We pull into the relatively close house that we were picking Dayton and Hannah up from. Kaileigh warned me that they could be annoying but that they wouldn't bother me much. She gets out of the car and tells me to stay. Before I can object, she closes the door, leaving me with Wesley.
He reaches toward the radio changing the station to country. I smile as Toby Keith fills my ears. I quietly sing the words to American Soldier and look out of the window to watch the cars roll by. Finally my eyes betray me by looking into the rear view mirror and see Wesley smiling at his phone. I don't mean to be noisy, but that doesn't mean that I didn't see him texting a girl, Carrie. I think to myself I was wrong for looking at his messages but I felt a little disappointed.
After a good few minutes Kaileigh opens the door ushering Dayton next to me and Hannah into the backseat. She climbed into the seat next to me, and looks at me with an annoyed look on her face.
"Hannah couldn't find her right shoe... Dayton hid it." I can't help but laugh. Being the only child, I generally don't have a problem losing things because siblings steal them.
The rest of the ride consisted of Hannah and Dayton arguing and Wesley texting the girl Carrie and Kaileigh and I laughing at Vine again. We pull up to a little house, still bigger than mine so not really small. We get out and Kaileigh takes me to her room and shows me where to set my stuff in her room. Wesley pokes his head in saying that he was taking a shower and not to go into his room until he got out. I change into Nike shorts and get rid of my shoes.
We walk in to the Kitchen and grab a water and flick through the movies on Netflix. Dayton whines that it was the TV he was using and Kalieigh yells at him telling him to wait. Finally Wesley walks out in to the living room in his shorts and a black tee shirt with the American flag on it.
"Are ya'll going to invade my room now?"
Kaileigh nods at him and Dayton snatches the remote and she smacks him in the head. We walk down the hallway into his room. I am pulled onto the bed by Kaileigh and I sit in the very back corner, I had never really been in a teenage boy's room. His sheets were camo, just like mine. HIs bed was way bigger than mine though. His laptop was on the floor and a flat screen tv was in the corner. A guitar sat next to the TV. We put in the Vow. Wesley pulled out his computer. He refused to go out and watch TV with Dayton.
As the movie ended i wiped a tear from my face. I cry in a lot of movies but I dont need people to know that. Wesley then picks his own movie. The name of which I never found out. He jumped on the bed next to Kaileigh and she tried to push him off.
"Get off!! There isn't enough room for your fat ass on here!!!" She groans at him.
"It is MY bed!" He laughs. Kaileigh then throws the blanket over him and jumps up trying to push him off as he screams in protest. She nods at me to help her and I start pushing him and laughing. Then I see a hand come up out of no where.
Pain inches its way across my face. I stifle a groan of pain. I continue trying to push him off but now near his legs. No one noticed the hit, and I didn't mind keeping it to myself. Finally he fell over the side of the bed. Kaileigh laughed and I did too. He got up and sat on the end of the bed, rubbing his back and laughing pretty hard as well. Then he looked at me, his smile lessened into a face full of concern.
"Hey, what happened to your face?" He says as he scoots toward me. I had slightly forgotten the pain that came from the hit only minutes ago. "It looks like a hand print." he says.
"You kind of back handed me." I say as I get up and walk into the bathroom to look at my face. He follows me and looks at me in my reflection. I examine the red marks of fingers slowly appearing on my face next to my eye.
"Hey, let me see it." He asks and I turn to him, he cups my chin looking at his mark on me. "I'm so sorry!"
I smile, "It's okay. I've had worse."
"Good job, Wesley!" I hear Kaileigh say from the hallway.
That's when I hear Mrs. Tracy. "Hey Steve and I are going to go hunting, well be home late, okay? Wesley you're in charge, Y'all just make sure the kids get to bed on time." Then the door shuts. I push my way back towards the room and lay back down on Wesley's bed.
He walks up to the side and asks, "Do you need ice?" I shake my head, I don't want anyone trying to take care of me, even Wesley, the swelling will go down by itself. He walks back to his chair and picks up his computer. The sun has gone down slightly but is still setting. My phone vibrates in my pocket. Nicole's name appears. I hate phone calls but I answer anyway.
"Hey bebe? Whats up?"
"I just realized that I'm moving in a month." she sobs. Her father had gotten a new job in San Antonio and Nicole hasn't been excited about it. In my mind I know when she gets there, I know there will be pluses about the move, although it could take a few months. I have never moved a day in my life. The town I was born in is the same one I have lived in for nearly fifteen years. I always have advice for her, this time, I am at a loss for words.
"I am sorry baby. It'll be okay!"
"The moving truck just got here. I don't want to leave." She cries harder.
Kaileigh looks at me, brows furrowed. "Nicole" I mouth to her. She stretches her hand out asking for the phone.
"Hey Kaileigh wants to talk to you okay? And she has better advice than me on this subject okay?" I hand her the phone. In that precise moment, the door is kicked open and Dayton stands in the door way, holding a gun. It takes me a second to realize its only Airsoft, but Airsoft bullets still hurt. Kaileigh pushes Dayton aside and walks into a room across the hallway. Besides it wasn't her he was after.
He points the gun at Wesley and Wesley glares at him, "Let me put the laptop down first." he says. He walks next to the bed and sets the computer next to me. He turns to look Dayton in the face, "What do you want Dayton?"
"I want to play Airsoft!" Dayton says flicking his blond hair out of his face, gun still aimed.
"1.Not in the house. 2. Not today." Wesley's says seriously.
Dayton then looks at me, and shifts his gun towards me. "Well th-" he begins but doesn't get to finish before Wesley had an Airsoft gun of his own pointed toward Dayton.
"Shoot and I'll kill you." Wesley says threateningly. Right then Dayton goes to pull the trigger. But it isn't his gun that goes off. He clutches his thigh where Wesley's bullet hit him. Then he runs down the hallway and Wesley runs to his door and the gun fires twice more and hit their target. If i didnt know the bullets caused only bruises i would have scolded him but honestly it probably didnt hurt Dayton at all. The door shuts and Wesley looks at me and I start to laugh. He joins me after a few seconds.
"I though you said not to shoot in the house?" I giggle.
"I wasn't going to let him shoot you. Here. Let me up." He says nudging me over and sitting right next to me and opens his laptop to show YouTube on an unfamiliar station. "You know who Pew De Pie is right?" He asks.
"No." I answer. His jaw drops.
"Not one video?" He asks, astonished. I shake my head. "Well be prepared." He laughs clicking on the next video.
