Prologue

January gasped for breath, crawling towards the door, with Winter close behind. "Go! Go! Keep going!" Winter yelled. "Momma! Papa!" January yelled, at the sound of her mother's scream of pain.

"GO!" Her mother yelled. "DO NOT TURN BACK!"

There was a cracking sound from the ceiling and January jumped forward as the ceiling caved in.

"RUN! GET OUT OF HERE!" Her father's deep baritone howled. January gave herself a final push and was out of the burning house, tumbling out onto the yard, where firefighters were.

Her head pulsed with pain, and she glanced back towards the house before she blacked out, just in time to see Winter's broken body, crushed by the fallen ceiling.

The screams raged from around her. "I don't give a fu-" "You want to use her for her money!" "How dare you!"

"SILENCE!" The judge roared. "I've come to my decision. January Bowers goes to Derry. The town is quiet and it'll give her time to recover."
