Henry slung his arm around the neck of his cousin as she smoked the cigarette. "You know, Patrick likes you." He began. "Patrick also likes to leave girls pregnant." She retorted.
"Well we're heading to the quarry tomorrow, you can join us. Maybe you'll change your mind when you see him shirtless." He teased. January pretended to throw up in disgust before erupting into giggles.

Early next morning, January set off to explore the quarry. She stopped at the sight of another bike, Mike Hanlon's bike, the homeschooled kid. He also happened to be on her cousin's hit list.
She couldn't let that happen.
She moved through the trees, pushing Mike's bike along, "Mike?" She called. "Mike Hanlon?" There was a rustle in the bushes and a teenaged boy peeked out.
January's stomach gave a little flip as she saw him. He was well built, with doe-like brown eyes, hair that was cropped short, and his skin was dark and smooth.
His face was wary as he saw her, "January Bowers right?" She smiled shyly, "Yeah." They stared at each other awkwardly before she snapped out of it. "You have to go." She hissed urgently. "Wha-"
"January!" Patrick's voice called out. Terror flashed across Mike's face, "Go," January said firmly. "There's a litter of kittens here, their mother has been missing for a few days, I have to move them."
"Hurry." She whispered, getting on her knees. He passed her the kittens one by one, and she placed them into his basket. He crawled out, and she hurriedly him in the opposite direction of Patrick's voice, handing his bike over.
"Thanks," he gave her a grateful smile. "January!" She waited till Mike cycled off before she yelled, "I'm here!"
"Kick him Henry!" January shouted, wobbling slightly from her place on Henry's shoulders. She let out a surprised shriek as Patrick leaned forward from his perch on Belch and gave her a quick shove.
He clung on as she toppled off Henry, the two falling into the water. Under the water, he placed a kiss to her neck, his hands trailing to her lower waist. They broke the surface of the water and January gave him a slap.
"So you're into that?" He grinned. "Actually I'm into boys who respect the word no." She snapped before beginning the hike back up to get her bike.
