Michael had taken me home that day, but we hadn't talked much after that. It had been a week since then, and we still hadn't spoken a word to one another. It was partly my fault, I was nervous, still. Besides, the boys seemed to be having... problems. Normally they were always together, but lately Jeremy had started to change. I hadn't seen the two hanging out for a few days now, which was super weird, and made me feel super bad. Jeremy was Michael's best friend.. Without him, Michael had no one.
I sat at my normal lunch table that day, but my mind wasn't on the conversation the others were having. Instead, my focus was on Michael, who sat at his table, all alone. Completely alone. It made my heart hurt. How could Jeremy just leave him alone like that? I wanted to go over there to him, but at the same time I was aware that some people preferred to be alone when they were upset. So I wasn't sure if Michael would want my company...
" (Y/N)" Skye said, snapping me out of my thoughts. I quickly turned to look at him, and he glared at me in turn. " Just go talk to him, and stop looking at him like a lost puppy dog." Skye said, crossing his arms as he gave me one of his stern looks. " I... You're right." I mumbled, slowly standing up. I grabbed my bag and lunch tray before making my way over to Michael.
The male with a mop of brown hair slowly lifted his big brown eyes to look up at me. " Hi.. Mind if I set with you?" I asked softly, keeping my eyes on him. He lightly nodded his head before looking back at his phone, scrolling through music. I slowly sat down beside him, but only silence followed. I wasn't sure what to say to him. " Michael?" I asked softly, causing him to look up at me again. " I'm sorry..."
" Why are you sorry?"
" Because Jeremy just doesn't seem like Jeremy anymore. " I say, and freeze as I see an angry look in his eyes. I had never seen him angry before, I even really upset. Usually Michael was always smiling and listening to music, loner or not. He didn't seem to care about what others thought of him.
" Yeah, he's been a real dick. I'm thinking up a monologue to tell him how much of a dick he's been. " A pause, " I gotta go. I have research to do. " He said, suddenly getting up and leaving. He barely even looked at me throughout the entire conversation. " Oh... Good...bye.." I mumbled to myself, as he was already out of sight.
The rest of the day seemed to drag on, and I still couldn't get Michael out of my head. What did he mean by research? What was going on? Why was Jeremy hanging out with Brooke? Even my brother hadn't tormented Jeremy... Which meant a good portion of his attention was directed towards tormenting Michael, though I tried to stop him whenever I saw it happening. My eyes flickered up towards the clock as I eagerly awaited the end of class. I was just ready for this day to be over with. My school work was loading up, and I had completely failed at trying to talk to Michael. Why did I apologize? It is clear he doesn't want any pity! I groan at my own foolish actions. I always over apologized, and Skye often got onto me for it.
" (Y/N)" Skye whispered, tapping on my desk.
" Hmmmm?"
" You're going to a party this weekend."
" NO....No I am not. "
" Yes, yes you are. I'm picking out your costume, and I'm dragging out ass out of the house and to a party. You know, to socialize. Like normal teens do. "
" I don't like parties... Or teens. "
" We will go shopping after school. "
" Skye! I really don't feel like going to a party. Tight place with horny teenagers squeezing up against one another, getting wasted and stoned. Not my scene. "
"You'll have fun. We will make you look hot! Besides, I've made it my goal this semester to pull you out of your shell. "
" I don't want to be pulled out of my shell!"
" YOU'RE GOING"I pout, but don't say anything else. At this point, my only hope was for Skye to forget about his quest.
After school, Skye had yet to forget his quest. He had managed to drag me into his vehicle, and agreed to get me some food to keep me from being too made at him. I glared at him as I shoved my chili cheese fries in my mouth.
" So, have any idea what you want to go as?"
" My home." I grumbled, still paying more attention to my fries than to him.
" Look, if you don't give me something, I'm going to make you go as a sexy cat. "
I glared at him. " You wouldn't DARE"
" Try me."
" Fine... How about Veronica from Heathers?"
" From what...?"
I say, remembering I was the only one of my friends that obsessed over musicals. I pull out my phone and show him a full pics, to which he grins in approval at me. " Got it, Veronica it is!" He said excitedly.I soon finished off my chili cheese fries, and we found the required stuff for the costume a lot easier than I had anticipated. It wasn't long before we were at Skye's house, and he was forcing me to get ready with him. A little bit later, we were both ready. Skye having done my hair and makeup. I did look hot.. But I still didn't want to go.
" Alright, lets go! You need to get your mind off of Michael, anyways. Some alcohol and cute guys will help you with that." He grinned, winking at me.
" Oh, yay.." I mumbled, but allowed him to drag me into his car anyways. Let's get this over with.
