Day 1 of Many
The next day, I woke up reluctantly at the exasperating sound of my alarm.
What I learned now long after that, was that the cabin was pre-stocked with a lifetime of supplies. So after a long inner debate, I decided to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast before getting ready and heading out the door; managing to successfully dodge Parker.
I met Tilly at her cabin at 7:15, just as we had planned the day before, then headed to the canteen.
Surprisingly, we weren't the first ones there, even though we'd been 10 minutes early. Lacey and her entourage were there, along with a couple other faces I had yet to recognise.
Andy caught our attention at 7;30 on the dot, explaining that he would call out our names and direct us to a specific group; sport, music, arts etc.
Unfortunately, Tilly and I were not put into the same group; she was put into the 'Art' group, explaining that she would be doing arts and crafts just as she had been in previous years.
I, on the other hand, was put into the sports group. For a second, I was extremely confused as to why I was put into that group.
I can't even run the length of myself.
But then I remembered, my mother most likely commented on how I used to play field hockey; 5 years worth of experience. Not to mention I participated in competitive kick boxing for 4 years, only stopping at the start of the year.
Even so, I hadn't done either of those things for months; years even, and that doesn't mean I'm athletic - they must be really desperate for sports coaches.
"Ivy Lane, correct?" The women sitting at the desk asked, quickly glancing at me before looking back down at the page.
"Yes."
"Okay Ivy, it says here that you done mixed martial arts, so you will be leading that class along side Mr Jones-"
Jones? Haven't I heard that name before?
"As well as helping out with the field hockey practices, led by one of the senior staff members.
Here is your schedule, those highlighted in red are you mixed martial arts classes, green is field hockey, blue is life guard duty-"
"I haven't got any life saving experience though, why would you place me by the pool?"
"Because you will get your training this week and we're low on staff. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes- and lastly yellow is your free time slots."
Looking at it, there were an overall of 8 yellow slots out of 113, over a course of 2 months.
Perfect.
"Since your already trained in mixed martial arts and field hockey, your going to spend today going over those and the rest of the week taking the qualifying tests to become a life guard.
There's a map on the back to tell you where to go."
"Okay- oh sorry, one last thing. That name you said earlier, Mr Jones? Who is that? It sounds really familiar to me."
"Well that's probably because he's your bunkmate; His full name is Parker Jones."
Fucking super.
"Oh. Thanks." I mumbled.
I can't seem to escape this guy.
"No problem, next!" She shouted, eyeing me to leave.
