Accidental Get Together

After breakfast, I took the kids to sign in for the day. None of them were in my centre, which meant I only had to deal with one immature child today-

Parker.

As soon as I walked into Centre C and saw Parker, I felt the rage from earlier crawling back up my chest.

Just looking at him made me want to scream in frustration.

Putting that frustration to use, I slipped into my training kit.
I had been given a pair of running leggings and tracksuit bottoms, along with a personalised top which had-

'Camp comfort
Martial arts
2017'

-Written on the front in small black font against the burgundy back round, and 'Lane' written in block capitals across my shoulder blades. Below that, a 18 made of the names of every counsellor that was employed that year.

Once I was finally ready, I stepped out of the bathroom I had previously used as a changing room, and went in search of Parker to confront him about this morning.

Although when I finally found him, our first session had already begun to arrive, so I thought it best that I wait until after.

Unfortunately Felix didn't fit into the time-table this morning so it was just Parker and I taking training today.

Our first group ranged between 15-17 year olds; the seniors.

"Alright everyone, quiet." Parker started, making the room grow silent.

"Incase you don't know me, I'm Parker and this is Ivy; we're going to be your instructors for this activity.
Before we start, I want to see a raise of hands of anyone who has done something similar to this- so self defence, boxing, kick bowing, ju jitsu- anything along those lines."

Not a lot of people raised their hands but it was definitely more than I was expecting.

"Okay, well whether you've done this before or not, we're going to start with the basics. At the end of this session, Ivy and I will come round each person and see your progress then next time you will be split into groups.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced.
Our other instructor, Felix, will be taking beginners. I will be taking intermediate.
And Ivy will be taking those in advanced."

Something tells me that grizzly over here is a little bitter that he doesn't get to take the advanced class.

"From there, we will be training you based on your ability- you can be moved up and down groups and at the end of the summer, those who want to participate in the annual sparring competition are in for the chance to win this years prize; $200"

I hadn't realised how spoiled these kids were until I saw the reactions to the prize money; none of them gave a flying fuck.

"I know it's not as much as last year-" how much was the prize last year?! "-but you know, cut backs and all.

Anyway, to start why don't we all get into pairs? You have 2 minutes and anyone without a partner will be assigned one - go."

Seeing this as my chance, I followed Parker to the side.

"What's with this morning?"

He looked up at me with a sigh. "What?"

"My alarm didn't go off-"

"Shit one for you then." He said not looking at me.

"Like you didn't do it." I crossed my arms.
