Shelby's POV

I stood on the ice with my friends next to me as Coach Mercier was explaining who he was and where he's from. He's from Québec, and it explains his thick english accent. He could speak english, his accent was just strong. Some laughed and he cracked up as well. The ice was filled with fifteen Canadian players, a Coach and trainer.

It surprised me a little to see that there was way more boys than girls. It was hard at first to make friends, considering it's not my genre. But it's odd how I can just express myself in different ways with my friends, yet I can't make friends. It's really weird, but I don't mind, I got my friends who help me.

"-hope that we can work well together and succeed as a team. No matter what, we're going up," He finished, his right hand in his pocket while the other was placed on his clip board.

He was quiet, and our trainer and tutor, Miss Brantford, spoke up. "Let's gather around the circle," Everyone looked at her, she was young of course, maybe her mid twenties or so. She at first did seem to treat some of us like we were little kids. After awhle it seemed like she warmed up to us. "gather around, come on,"

We all did as told and gathered in a circle, we were close enough together that all our shoulders were touching. "Now, before Coach Mercier has you guys do some warm up activities, we're all gonna say our names, and where we're from,"

She pointed to a boy, that I didn't know and he went ahead and said who he was. "Oliver Jones and I'm from Charlottetown, PEI,"

And we went around the loop like that. "Luke Collins from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories,"

"I'm Liam Callaway and I'm from Regina, Saskatchewan,"

"Thomas Russell from Winnipeg, Manitoba,"

"Cameron Bernard. Québec City, Québec,"

"Victoria Hoffman. Calgary, Alberta,"

"Riley Williams from Toronto, Ontario,"

"Jayden Thompson, from Toronto, Ontario,"

"Danika LeSage. Calgary, Alberta,"

"Shelby Morin, from Calgary, Alberta,"

"Daniel Hayes. Dawson City, Yukon,"

"Kyler Schmidt from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan"

"Alexander Myers. Vancouver, BC,"

"Finnlay James, Kelowna, BC,"

"Bryce LaFoy, Edmonton, Alberta,"

That's our team. Now that Coach was ready to do the team activities, he cleared his throat, looking around, and then spoke up. "All right, we're all gonna separate by province or territories,"

Everyone did as told, we had four people in our group. Bryce, Danny, Toria, and Myself. The four of us were talking while the rest of them were trying to remember who was from where. Once done, Coach has us get in lines, with our group. "So, each player is gonna skate to the far end of the rink and back. You'll sit down, then the next one will go, and once you're team is done, we're gonna see who finished first,"

We all cheered and I was told to start us off first. I wonder why? Just kidding, I know why. I got into position and when he blew the whistle, I was first down the ice. I was faster than all of them, and I could see the other boys trying to out beat me, which is impossible. There was five boys who each came from a different province or territory, yet they were alone, so Coach stuck the four together and put the other with the team of Saskatchewan kids. The smallest team had two people, which was unfair, but of well.

I got back and the others had just reached the far end of the rink. Next was Danika, then Bryce, then Toria. I had taken my seat and watched the others excel, and some boys' eyes had trailed over to me, I just grinned and cheered on my teammates. I could tell that they were jealous of my speed, but hey, maybe they're all better at something that I'm not.

Danny got back, then Bryce headed out. Right now were in second, because the team in first is the guys who have two, which shouldn't count, but oh well. I'd say for an overall win, it's going to be my team. And just like I predicted, it was us who had won and the four of us had stood up and cheered for each other, as we patted one another's shoulders.

"All right, split into two teams, we're gonna see what Team Canada is really made of!" Coach called. The teams weren't an even number. It was eight vs seven. My team was eight people, and out of all things, I happened to be split up from the other two. Coach had advised that we make it seem fair. I got hauled to this side by someone and by the time the other two could join, my team was full and Coach told us to start.

The teams were Kyler, Oliver, Alexander, Thomas, Toria, Danika, and Cameron. My team was Jayden, Daniel, Luke, Riley, Finnlay, Bryce, Liam, and Myself. I started off on the bench while Danika and Toria had both started on their first line. Coach and Miss Brantford both stood at the players' bench watching us, Coach was calling different things and telling us to go full force, and not to hurt anyone.

To me, this was really different because usually when I play I'm alongside Toria and Danika. I usually am not alone, on a line with people I barely know. What if they all play the same side as I do? What if none of us can get along? What if I'm put as defense?

I hopped the boards and it was a face off now. Danika was center with Toria as her right wing. I played left wing and skated into position. I wanted to take an easy on the other two, but it was hard considering I was facing Toria off. How? Well, the sides are different. On her side she's on the right, and my left is her right, and vice versa.

The puck dropped and Danika had won the puck from Bryce, who was left dumbfounded. I kept close to Toria, it was harder because usually I pass to her or receive the pass from her, and Danika, too. So, yeah, it's a little harder and to remember that I can't pass them puck.

I knew I'd excel, just not when I'm told to play against my best friends. We're all great players and it will pay off. I know that we'll all learn something from one another, whether it's hockey or something completely different.

Luke had intercepted a pass by one of the others. I called out that I was ready for a pass, and he saw, sending it to me. With it in my possession, I headed down the ice. I turned to see if anyone was on my tail, and Toria was. I quickly passed the puck over to Finnlay and had crashed into the boards with Toria.

We laughed it off and got up, getting back into the game with the others.

For the rest of our practice, we had did a scrimmage. There was one fight that broke out at the end of the scrimmage. The cause was because the two defensemen on my team; Daniel and Luke weren't really working well together. They seemed cool but now it seems like they detest one another. The rest of us had crowded around in a circle watching two teen boys fight. We're all glad that none of them had gotten hurt too badly. Daniel and Luke both were broader, taller boys, hence the reason they're defensemen, along with Oliver.

After their fight, Coach had sorted things out and practice had ended.
