Chapter 1

"Nyx can you please pass me the plates?"

I got up from the sofa to grab the plates from the table and hand them to my mom. "Here you go." She gave me a thankful smile. The smile that I apparently had inherited from her. I wasn't complaining. My mother was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. She used to be a model when she was my age but had to give it all up once she got pregnant.

"Why don't you go and see where your fathers gone dear." I nodded and went outside. The wind hit my face. It wasn't a strong wind but a typical wind you'd get on a beach in Wales. I had decided to take a break from the busy London life and take my parents for a long weekend in a cottage in Wales by the beach. I just had to get away from everything. From university (although how hard can learning about Norse and  Greek mythology be?), from all my friends who all just wanted to get drunk every night but most of all from Robin. The mere thought of him gave me shivers.

I walked around to the back of the cottage and found my dad sitting there, reading. "Hey pops." He looked up from the book and smiled at me. "Hey Nyx. What's up?"

I sat down next to him on the blanket and took a look at what he was reading. It was one of my uni books. "Enjoy the book?" My dad laughed putting his book mark on the page he had read up to and closing the book.

"A bit. I'm not going to lie but this Loki person sounds like a right douche." I laughed at dad. Of course everyone would say that. I was one of the few people that actually tried to understand  the God of Mischief. Well the comic nerds could argue but the comic Loki is a bit different than the mythological Loki. Not only by the looks but his past.

"We could argue about that. I feel like Loki is the victim here and Odin the bad guy." My dad chuckled. I was usually the person to see say that a bad guy in a movie or TV show was the victim and the good guys were the bad people.

"You'd say that wouldn't you? But isn't Odin, the All-Father supposed to be good?" I reached into my bag, which my dad had with him and pulled out a copy of one of my favourite books, "The Gospel of Loki" by Joanne M. Harris. I passed the book to dad.

"Read this. You'll understand what I mean. Anyway mom wanted you." Dad groaned and I laughed at him. We folded up the blanket and I grabbed my bag, making our way back inside the cottage. When we got in I sprinted to the fireplace and sat there enjoying the fire. "Steve can you put on some music?" My dad turned to look at me.

"So Nyx, which Black Sabbath album shall we play tonight?" I laughed knowing my mom wouldn't be too happy with our music choice.

"Tyr. Did you know that the album is named after the Germanic God of war who is also the son of Odin?" My mom laughed.

"So are you trying to tell me Black Sabbath based their album on Norse Mythology?" I gave me dad the 'really' look.

"Please, there are songs called 'Odin's Court' and 'Valhalla'. Come on pops." He laughed at me.

We sat by the fireplace for a while, drinking hot chocolate and making small talk about anything and everything. "How about we go for a walk down the beach? The sun is setting and its going to be a beautiful view."

We all agreed and went to put on a few more layers of clothing. 15 minutes later we were walking along the beach. "So how are things with Robin?" My smile faded."

There is nothing to talk about on the subject of Robin." Mom and dad looked at each other unsure of what to say next. My dad spotted something ahead of us and ran to examine it, only to disappear right in front of us. Me and my mom stopped dead in our tracks.
