The past week has been non-stop.
Its a Magical break from the Hell-Hole known as Middle school
I call it a hellhole because it's not changed in the last month.
Anyway......
SPRING BREAK.
We left about ten minutes after Genisis left last Sunday. I was all up in arms that we hadn't packed one bit.
I see now why we didn't need to.
I thought we were gonna do one of the cliche go-south-to-Florida trips (about 2000 miles) we did about a Quarter of that (750 or so miles, close enough to a quarter.)
I'm currently in the beautiful yet still frozen moonscape of West Michigan.
David and May's Hometown of Grand Haven is a small town (Pretty big compared to the 3 Building 'Village' known as the TenHagen Homestead, population: 4) with around 13,000 people. It apparently has a Festival in the summer known as 'Coastguard festival'
So it makes sense that the city is aptly named "Coastguard city, USA"
We haven't done much (which is a bunch of BS).
We haven't had one day (thus far) that we did absolutely nothing.
You see The Great Lakes region gets a lot of 'F Yous' over the winter, Ex, One day it will be 45 Degrees, (yesterday) and the next will be 20 with a low of -4 (today)
Anyway, today we are going to a sledding hill, one that David went to as a kid.
What a 'Spring Break'
~~~~
We pulled into a muddy gravel parking lot at about 15 miles an hour. I think David was pretty excited. I was thrown about, only stopped the seatbelt, then immediately tossed into the side of the truck as David turned the other way
"David, No need to be giving anybody concussions before we even get to the hill," May scolded
"Huh?" Winter grudgingly said lifting her head up from a nap. She had been up late talking to Genisis, who struck it big and left for Florida via Airplane as soon as she left on Sunday.
"We're here knucklehead" I noted, unbuckling and throwing myself out the door.
"Oh!" Winter Scrambled out the truck.
We were also a convoy. As in, there were 2 cars that were with us
One other guy, around the age of David, exited his old car and called out to David "Hey, David" he shouted.
David snapped to attention, then spun around, saw the dude who had called him, then ran over there.
"Hunter! Hows it goin', Bro?" He asked
"Oh, just fine!" Hunter noted, "Got the ole' Shelby running, Nate started pre-school in September, anyway 'nough bout me whatchu been up to?"
May was talking to Hunters wife (that's my guess on who the chick is)
So Winter and I, being the only two kids our age, started to wander off with our sleds.
"You have no idea the stupidity of some of the things we do here," Winter told me once we got a distance away.
"Oh yeah, like what?" I asked
"Aight, Imagine Dad, standing on top of a toboggan, going down a sledding hill."
I looked up. "What the hell is wrong with you people?"
"Welcome to Michigan, where idiots abound in every corner, yet we hardly care"
"Better than Chicago, I once witnessed someone sledding on a beggars cardboard sign, all the while the beggar ran and shot at him, naked"
"I take back all I just said."
We arrived at a log lodge, it wasn't very busy, so the place wasn't open, but I'd love to have gone there
There were two hills. One shorter and a tad shallow, and it rose up to a taller, steeper hill, with visible bumps and a small ramp that protruded from the bottom. Obviously from previous sledders from the past few hours.
"Damn" I sighed "lots bigger than the small ones in the city."
"This ain't the start of it, you haven't seen the whole of the property at home, there's places with 200-foot elevation change," Winter noted
"Remind me to not sled with you then."
"Too bad, I'm gonna make you do it anyway"
"Great," I replied.
We sat down to wait for the others before we zipped down the slope. After all, it was icey as the north pole itself due to it being a hard layer of ice underneath a few inches of lake effect snow.
"WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO" David shouted as he ran, jumped and landed on his knees, flying down the icey hill getting down the icey slope, but due to many bumps, he was no longer screaming in excitement.
One particular bump was particularly big, and when David landed his great voice cracked, causing a humorous sound to fill the surrounding hills and forest.
"Dude what the hell was that!" Hunter shouted after running up to the hill next to us.
"I Haven't been able to do that for a long time!" David shouted, his voice echoing in the snow, "I think winter was still in Elementary the last time I did that here,"
"That doesn't answer my question,"
David shouted something that made May shout "Language!" while making his way up the hill, slipping and falling up the slope due to ice. At one point it came down to him drawing his knife and sinking it into the ice underneath the snow to keep him from sliding down the walkway.
Winter backed up from behind me while I wasn't paying attention. I was only brought awareness to the fat when I heard her boots clomping on the ground as she sprinted past me, leaping into the air and slipping her sled underneath her knees, sliding down the hill. She plowed her way through the fresh powder, her weight (or lack thereof) caused her to come to a stop around twenty yards from her father's stopping point.
She stood up from her sled. One could see her beaming smile cut across her rosy cheeks, and hear her laughter echo through the woods from the top of the hill. She waved and shouted, "Com'on Brantley, I promise you won't die!", as she began making her way up the hill.
I sighed, "If I die I'm blaming it on you!"
"Fair enough"
"Com'on Brantley, It'll be fun," David proclaimed, slipping his knife back into its sheath, having finally made it up the slope.
I Backed up. Then sighed in hesitation.
"I bet you cant beat my distance," Winter taunted from the base of the hill, making better progress than her father on ascending up the hill.
I broke out into a dead sprint, and when I was a few feet from the crest of the hill, jumped as hard as I could.
Sorry but this is honestly my thought as I one, Failed to get my sled beneath me and two, froze because I had just launched myself a bit far for my comfort zone than I was intending
Shit.
A/N So i doubt this will get much for reads considering its been 8 MONTHS since I updated it, but screw that am-I-right?
