I woke up in the hospital, a couple hours after I passed out. My monitor must've alerted the hospital. The paramedics kept it quiet and came through the back, knowing that I didn't want anyone to find out. Namely Carter. My vision was blurred and my mouth was dry. The nurse came in to check my blood pressure and left shortly thereafter. Mom didn't come home after her double and met me in my room. The benefits of having a doctor as a mother is that she helps when you're sick, although she's rarely at home. As my vision cleared up, my eyes met my mother's grey-blue eyes. She smiled at me softly.
"It's gotten worse hasn't it?" I asked, my voice raspy and rough.
A single tear ran down my mother's cheek as she nodded swiftly, a smile still on her face. "What got you so stressed?"
This time tears were forming in my eyes as I muttered a name that held more meaning to me than most. "Carter." My mother leaned in and planted a soft kiss on my cheek. She knew instantly why my heart gave in so easily this morning. "He's going to hate me forever isn't he?" My mom gave me a sympathetic look and squeezed my hand.
A figure rested on the glass door at the entrance of my room. With short brown hair and a scruffy grey flannel layed over ripped jeans, you could tell it was Miles. My mom smiled softly at him before exiting the room, leaving my best friend and I in the room.
"I brought your homework." He said before laughing slightly. "Not like you'll do it though." I shrugged. "You never know."
"Carter's back, they let him out, finally." Miles mumbled the last word to himself. All I did was smile at my best friend - his hair was a light brown; he was wearing black jeans, a Ramones tee with a blue and black flannel. - "You know? Wait of course you do. He stays across the fucking road from you." He paused for a split second and brushed his finger against his lip ring - we'd gotten it together, he did his lip and I did my tongue - "God! Is he the reason you're in here? Is that why you and your mom were talking about him? Fucking hell, he's back one day and he gets you sent to the hospital." Miles paced back and forth - he was obviously pissed off - his hands pulling at his hair.
"Miles seriously, it's fi-"
"No Lolana. No. It's not fucking fine. He could've killed you and the worst part is that he wouldn't know. I know sure as hell that you aren't going to tell him that your fucking heart is failing."
"Miles." I muttered. He had tears forming in his eyes. "C'mere." I said extending my arms and sitting up on the bed. He immediately answered my invite and let my arms curl him up as I wrapped him into a hug. I could feel the tears leak through the thin fabric of the hospital clothes and onto the bare skin on my left shoulder.
"I don't want to lose you, Lana. I can't lose you. You're all I have in this shitty world. Please don't leave me here." He cried, his voice muffled.
"I don't want to. I never want to leave you." I whispered, slowly tearing up myself.
I grabbed his shoulders and pulled him out directly in front of me so I could face him. His eyes were red and his face was wet with tears. I grabbed him gently by his face and wiped his tears away with my hand as he sniffled. "I love you Miles."
"I love you too." He said a slight smile forming on his face. He shook out his body as he got up and started fixing his hair. "Well that was sad and some serious shit." He chuckled.
I laughed.
"You'll be released tonight I guess, so I'll tell my mom I'm crashing by you and bring smoothies and pizza. Sound good?"
"Sounds perfect." I smiled.
"Good, 'cause its not like you had much of a choice there." He smirked and suddenly hugged me softly. "Miles, what are you doing?"
"I needed to trap you."
"Why?"
My question was answered as he started tickling me, knowing I was super ticklish.
"I hate you!"
