I put the jar of milk and my bow and arrows in a near by tree. I changed back to my wolf form to hunt for some food. After a few hours I went back to the cave I was hiding the pups in. When I got into the cave the pups were playing with one another. Only two of the pups had names so I was going to have to name them. the one that had brown fur and black marking running up and down its side was μικρό, which stood for little one in Greek. He's mother probably named him that because he was pretty small even for a pup. Σάρα ,or Sarah in English, had black fur with white paws. Our tribe was Greek so it was tradition to have a name in Greek. Luna and our Alpha were the only ones that didn't have a Greek name.
The only reason Sejay, Luna, and me didn't have a Greek name was because when a wolf became alpha they would get a new name in english. Luna and I didn't have Greek names because when a wolf was brought into the pack they would keep their old name.
I only had to name 3 pups because 2 had a already been named. I picked up one that was probably 5 months old and looked at it. I sat down on the cold cave floor and sat the pup in my lap. The pup had pure black fur with streaks of purple running down his sides. I decided to name him μωβ ένα, which means purple one. I looked at a pup with white fur and brown tips on the ears. Σελήνη, or Luna, she just reminded me of Luna so much. She may not look like Luna, but I know she was going to be like Luna. The last one reminded me of myself, she even looked like me. I decided one naming her Βικτόρια, which meant Victoria.
I gave the pups some milk and meat for dinner. I ate some of the rabbit that I had caught and laid down to sleep. The pups yawned and curled up next to me and fell asleep instantly. That night my dream came from my memories, like they mostly did.
I woke up lying in front of the alter. The fire in the bowl had died out and all that was left was some ashes. The stones weren't glowing anymore and there were no sounds. The moon and stars were shining down into the clearing allowing me to see. I still hurt all over, but grudgingly got onto my feet no matter how much my body screamed in protest. My tail curled around my waist. It was pure black, just like my wolf form, and the fur was soft. The crickets resumed singing once they realized that the ceremony had ended.
I headed back down the path to the tunnel. I noticed I was able to hear farther, see in the dark, and had a lot more stamina. I had finally got back to the tunnel and it was still dark. I took a deep breath and started running trough the tunnel. It felt get running like I was. Cold, musty, damp air slapping up against my face and body making my hair fly behind me. The cold wasn't bothering me like it normally would. Kind of like my body temperature went up. I was okay with that because I didn't really enjoy the cold. I got out of the tunnel and ran to the house.
Smoke was coming from the chimney, so I knew my mom and dad were up waiting for me. I slowed to a stop in front of the door. I pulled the hood up, took a deep breath to calm my nerves, and opened the door. My mom was sitting on the couch with my dad, who had one arm around. They looked up at me and smiled.
"Oh, darling. How was it? Did you find your spirit animal?" she asked getting up and hugging me tightly.
"Ya, I did," I replied pulling my hood down showing off the wolf ears on my head. My mother inhaled sharply bringing her hands up to her mouth. Her eyes started to get watery like she was going to cry. She back up from me and let out a strangled cry. I looked over at my dad to see him at me in disgust. What's wrong? I thought to myself.
"A-a-a w-wol-wolf?" my mother stuttered.
"Ya?" I said it carefully, wondering what was wrong. "What's wrong?"
"What's wrong?! WHAT'S WRONG?! Everything is wrong! YOU. ARE. A. WOLF! THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG!" by this point his yelling woke Victoria and Samantha up. My two little sisters stood at the foot of the stairs watching our father yell at me. My eyes filled with tears that threatened to fall, but i wouldn't allow it. "THIS IS A DISGRACE! I'll send word to the emperor and they can do something about this," my father said nastily while glaring at me. I couldn't take anymore so I pulled my hood back up to cover my ears and to the woods that lie on the outskirts of our town. I stopped at the edge of the forest and looked back. Tears stung my eyes. Samantha was crying and running toward me. I loved Samantha, she was my little sister after all, and I was the one that took care of them when mom and dad couldn't. She caught to me and I bent down.
"Don't go, I don't want you to go," she cried.
"I have to Samantha. We'll see each other again someday," I reassured her.
"Promise," she asked.
"I promise," I told her. She held out her hand. It held her necklace that our mother gave her for her fifth birthday. She loved it and always wore it. It had brass chain with a Pegasus charm dangling from it. I unclipped the clasp and put it around my neck. I kissed on the forehead and stood up. I never changed into my animal before, but I had seen my parents do it. I focused on my animal and concentrated on it. It was painful, but not as painful as when it was during the ceremony. I heard bones popping and saw that a black aura surrounding me as I shifted. My mom's was a light brown like the fur her deer form had, while my dad's was a brownish color like tree bark.
When my aura faded I was a pure black wolf. Samantha came up to me and petted my head. I looked over at our town one last time before running into the forest dodging trees as I zoomed past. Our town was know as ville de la forêt, which meant town of the forest in French. It was probably known as that because most of the people from here had a spirit animal that came from a forest. Some people didn't, but most of the people from our town had a forest spirit animal.
It felt great running through the forest on all fours. The wind blowing trough my fur, the moon shining above. I heard a clap of thunder and it started to rain. The rain seeped into the ground and socked the black fur that covered my body. The wind picked up and pushed my ears against the top of my head. I was becoming tired from running all night and I hadn't had dinner yet. I put my nose to the ground and sniffed it for any animal scent. I walked a little ways away and picked up the scent of a baby deer that was all alone. I tracked the deer to a field of flowers. I deer was lying down in the flowers crying out for its mother. I crouched down and got ready to attack. I let my wolf instincts take over and I attacked. The deer got up to run, but I was to quick. I quickly caught up and bite its leg making it fall and I took the opening and killed it.
I dragged the deer away and started eating it. Once the deer was gone. I curled up and fell asleep.
I woke up to the dark cave, but I knew it was dawn. The pups were snuggled up to my body.
