(Pin) I was completely dumfounded and lost for words - all I could do was blub silently like a goldfish. A herd of ghost ponies - how was that possible? They were graceful and elegant yet wild and free. But how could it be, ghosts don't exist. Eventually someone found the words to speak. "What was that's?" It was quiet enough to miss but there was so little noise that I could hear it. "Let's turn back" I said tugging at the reins, I was spooked we all were, and I didn't want to stay there any longer. "I agree," Zoe said from behind me "Let's go back." So instead of completing the route and going all the way back through the forest we turned around and went back to the stables via the ridgeway.
Back at the stables we all brushed and cleaned our horses and by the time they were stabled and fed it was 7:30, Zoe was apparently meant to have dinner half an hour ago but had messaged her mum to say keep it till 8. I on the other hand was trying to stay at the stables as long as possible. Zoe seemed to see that and must have worked out why. "Hey," She said putting her hand on my shoulder "Would you like me to talk to Elliot now?"
"Thanks." I replied. Zoe whipped out her phone from her jacket and went into her contacts. Soon Elliot's voice answered "Hello?" he said.
"Hi this is Zoe, Zoe Philips. I came to talk to you today, but you were busy and seemed to forget that you don't have a secretary. So, I was wondering if we could talk now?
"Um well I have a tight schedule but sure if it takes no longer that 10 minutes." He said Rather impatiently. Zoe sat down on the nearest bench and I followed - this was going to be some long and tiresome 10 minutes. Earlier I mentioned to her that Marcus wouldn't get a job too, so now she was phoning about both issues. "Ok." She started. "I wanted to talk to you about the yard hands Pin and Marcus."
"Oh them." I heard Elliot say, well he didn't really say it he spat it. "Mia told me all about them."
"What did she say" Zoe cut in, taking the chance to ask that before he could rant on about us.
"she said- "He started "She said that they were lazy, didn't do any work and Marcus spent his time drooling over the girls while pin just moped about all day in the hay barn. While ted hardly showed himself, just working on the weekends - not even working. They just mope about while Marcus drools, the place is always dusty and the paint's chipping etc." Elliot recited. While Zoe scribbled down something.
"Ok and when did she say this?" Zoe questioned. The clogs in her head working on overtime.
"Well at lunch time she - "Elliot paused. "She came into my office in the 5-minute gap between clients handed me a letter and walked off."
When Zoe finished scribbling down the notes she asked the delicate question: "And do you really believe this?"
"Well of course I do!" Elliot laughed "She's my daughter, and believe me I know when she is lying. So, don't go saying she's lying. You know- She warned me about you. She said you were a lying thieving accuser and not to let you on the stable premises when I buy it. That reminds me I need to find time in my schedule to contact the estate agents." He muttered.
Zoe jotted it down and looked at me with that - this means trouble look.
"Well thank you for your time I will contact you later to discuss more details." She said in a very businesslike voice. She then ended the call and gave a relieved sigh
"What are we going to do?" She asked. We sat in thought for a bit until she said "I've got it! It's not much but it's a start- we call a yard meeting tomorrow when the triplets are back, and we will put Becky on skype and if Marcus is still Ill we will put him on skype to."
