there was a sharp pain to the left of luke's spine, starting at the same level as his shoulder blade. it dragged down slowly, hatefully. the boy wanted to scream, he wanted to yell out in pain, but his mouth felt as if it were stapled shut, vocal chords ripped out.

as the sting reached the boy's lower back, the object that was creating it pushed down, creating a puncture in the skin. blood leaked out, but still, luke couldn't make a sound. he felt anger boiling in his stomach, but why was a mystery to him.

then the same routine took place on the right side of his spine, a burning ache spreading out through his whole back. he could feel the color red, excruciating in a way he didn't know was possible. his eyesight was clotted with black spots, finding it hard to breathe.

the blonde finally let out a noise, making his throat burn. it was a low groan, and his body seemed to finally have come to life. his arms flailed, but it made them feel as if they were dipped in hot lava. he luckily had enough brain power to know that his legs would feel the same, so he kept those still.

as the object on the right side of his back dug down, he felt another on his left, starting at the top, tracing the same trail as before, making the wound deeper.

he was going through torture, he knew it too. but still his brain wouldn't process the fact. so his head was swarming, almost as if questions were bees. thousands of them, clogging up his mind, eating away at his skull, like it was some sort of flower, waiting to be sucked dry then pollenated.

then, the sharp object of what luke was guessing metal dragged up, but just on one side. then, an oh-so familiar voice spoke softly and calmly, almost like a lullaby. "goodbye, luke." he let out one last, small sound before the metal was forced into the back of his neck.

luke woke up, breathing heavily. he was already sitting up when ashton stirred in his sleep next to the blonde. luke looked to the boy with wide eyes, then searched the darkness, making sure there was no one in the room to hurt him. of course he didn't get up, but he looked around thoroughly.

then ashton woke with a small groan, probably from the movement of luke. his eyes opened to see the younger lad freaked out. "what's wrong, babe?" he asked, luke instantly lying back down so he could bury his face in ashton's bare chest.

"i had a nightmare," he mumbled with a sniff or two, ashton understanding right away.

"well, whatever happened, you're fine now. it was just a dream. here, it must be somewhere around two in the morning love, why don't you try to go back to sleep?"

luke nodded softly, moving so now the side of his head was resting against ashton's shoulder, half of his body on top of the brunette's. ashton rubbed luke's back soothingly, then his hand went up to his hair, brushing through it softly with his fingers.

as luke drifted off his mind was empty, and didn't notice when ashton's hand stopped moving. slowly the older boy slid his arm under the pillow next to him, grabbing something gently. he then, at a leisurely pace, brought the tip of it up to the nape of luke's neck.

but luke was awake enough to hear what ashton had to say next, and he had the worst déjà vu of his life.

"goodbye, luke."
