Next to the boys, a door opened. Mark peered inside. Bright colours were everywhere, and platforms filled the room, each one connected. Confused Mark stepped into the room, jack limping behind him. Bang! The door slammed shut behind them. Squinting his eyes at all the vibrant colours jack tried to remember if he had seen this place before or not. Then it clicked.
They were at a play barn.
Now that may sound weird but just roll with it, you'll understand what I mean later on in the story.
Mark realised too, smiling excitedly. It was just like a kid again, being able to crawl through tubes and run up slides. He took in all the magic. Suddenly a loud, high pitched voice cried out. A familiar voice.
"Help, please, anyone here?"
"That's Ethan," Mark whispered
"Who?" Jack asked
"Ethan," Mark answered, "he's one of my closest friends"Jack could see how pale Mark had gone. He reached out to squeeze marks had, to show him that it'll be alright, they'll find him but at the last second he snatched his had back. Examining the room and trying not to show Mark his flustered face jack spoke, "we'll find him, don't worry"
Mark nodded slightly as an unsure response.
"You should call out to him" jack continued, "tell him to tell us where he is"
Mark nodded again, licking his dry lips he called out for Ethan, "Ethan! We're here, tell us where you are!"
They waited for a few seconds and soon got their response.
"Mark I'm so glad you're here, I'm tied up above the ball pit!" Ethan yelled back.
"Erm, okay, we don't know where that is but we'll find you!"
"Than-" Ethan's yelling turned into muffled screams. Marks face looked like ice, his eyes glossy.
He must really care about his friends, jack thought to himself, smiling slightly.
"It's okay" he reassured Mark, "we'll find him and rescue him"
Mark didn't say anything, he smiled slightly then headed towards the adventure waiting for them.Jack crawled through the tube after mark. However he soon realised that Mark had been separated from him. He looked around but couldn't see him, at all. "Mark...?" He called out
"Jack, where are you?" He heard Mark yell back
"It's hard to explain, head towards the ball pit, we'll meet there!"
"O-okay"Mark was alone. He was stuck. In the corner of his eye he saw a gap in the net. Climbing through it he could see the ball pit. Each ball a bright colour, matching everything else in the room. Above the ball pit was a dangling Ethan. His arms and legs tied up with rope and some tape over his mouth. His chocolate eyes were covered by a black eye mask. Mark could just about see his chest rising and falling quickly, he was obviously scared.
On the other side of the ball pit was jack, he noticed Mark and smiled. He watched Mark carefully cross a beam to get closer to the ball pit. Marks shaky arms held out like wings to keep his balance. Snickering at the funny sight jack made his was to the ball pit too. Grabbing ropes that we're above him, he swung towards the hanging man. Just like a monkey, jack climbed up the wall, finally reaching Ethan. Slowly he took off Ethan's mask revealing large, sparkly, brown eyes. They were filled with emotion, mostly shock.
"Now I'm gonna take the tape off of your mouth, don't move" jack informed him, using a gentle tone of voice.
Ethan nodded and winced as the tape ripped off his hairs. He yelped in pain and glared at Mark when he heard him laughing.
"Mark you dick!" Ethan exclaimed
"I'm sorry, it was funny to watch!" Giggled Mark, jack laugh too.
"I'm gonna untie you now so you'll fall into the ball pit" jack explainedOnce again Ethan nodded, feeling the rope loosen around his legs. Relaxing his muscles he prepared himself for the fall. Finally the ropes loosened all the way and Ethan screamed as he fell.
Suddenly the ball pit opened and Ethan's screaming faded away. Surprised, mark looked at jack and jack returned it.
"Shall we?" Mark suggested, raising an eyebrow,
"Definitely" jack replied, grinning.Mark jumped first, yelling in excitement. He was soon followed by Jack who was just as excited. Darkness engulfed them like a warm blanket as they fell. Jack was just about to mention how he thought they were never going to stop until suddenly... thud!
Groaning he got up. Blinking a few times to adjust his eyes to the bright lights, he rubbed his back which throbbed gently. He searched for marks friend but couldn't find anyone. Luckily Mark had already found a note, so he wasn't worried, "Ethan's safe, I feel better now"
"You should" jack said, smiling at how protective Mark was.Around them the room transformed, it's pearl white walls turning into millions of trees. Each tree filled with critters and animals. Cheerfully birds chirped and deer's foraged for food that hid under the leaves. Browns, golds, reds and yellows flew everywhere as leaves floated down to the dirty floor. Sun light slipped through gaps in the trees, emitting a pleasant heat. Both of them examined their surroundings and soon Mark spotted a path, "I'm guessing we have to go that way?" He suggested.
"Probably" jack agreed, heading in the paths direction. The cream bricks stood out from its surroundings. Each one shiny and new unlike the crumbling dirt that had started coating them. Soon they would be covered in the dark brown mess, hiding the bricks beauty. Their shoes made soft noises as they walked and a small breeze accompanied the sun, cooling down their faces, making sure they wouldn't get too hot.
Whistling happily Mark took in the nature. Excited at all the new things to see. By his side the green haired Irish man quietly snacked on some biscuits.
However, both men were admiring the new landscape so they didn't hear the low growl and the patter of soft paws on the bricks behind them.

I dunno about this chapter tbh, it's not my best. It's kinda just here to move things on in the story. Tell me what you think in the comments and vote if you liked it. Thank-you to the few people who are reading this, didn't really think this story would get any reads so I'm glad it's getting at least a couple years each chapter. That's not many but I'm happy with that :)
