Walking home from school was torture. It was quite windy and for some reason it irritated my skin and my neck kept itching. Sam must've noticed that walking was causing me some discomfort because she called her mom to come pick us up even though we were half way to her house.
It took Trudy 3 minutes to come and pick us up. At first she seemed upset when we entered the car then she looked worried when she saw me. She looked at me up and down to see if I was fine. She landed her gaze on my neck. Her eyes showed pity. I began to feel really self conscious and didn't know why.
"Thanks Trudy. But you really didn't have to come."
"I'm guessing he hasn't been talked to yet?" She completely ignored my question and looked right at Sam.
"No we weren't positive." She said quietly. What were they talking about?!
"Well trust me it's gonna happen." Trudy looked me over again.
"What is going on!?" I asked in a rush. My head was spinning. I had so many ideas of what they might be talking about.
"Soon." The rest of the car ride was silent.

Trudy dropped me off at home instead of her house. I told her I didn't feel good. Which wasn't a complete lie. My throat was dry and my skin was super itchy. Maybe I had the chicken pox. But what I really wanted was answers.
I went straight to the kitchen to get water. I quickly drank 3 cups of water. I filled it a 4 time and went into my mothers office.
She was sitting at her desks typing something on her computer. As soon as she saw me she stopped and gave me a smile.
"How was school today?"
"It was ok.." I didn't want to tell her about P.E. Knowing her she would freak out and have Dr. Swimmer come and take a look at me.
"Is everything ok?"
"Ya except I feel like you are hiding something from me. Like everyone is." I drank some water and scratched my neck.
She looked pale. "Why do you say that?"
"You and Dad have been acting strange and Sam and Trudy were talking about me not being talked to yet." My neck was itching like crazy and scratching it didn't work.
She rubbed her temple and closed her eyes. "They were probably just talking about your birthday." I nodded my head pretending like I understood. I turned to leave.
"And Gray I know you're hiding something from me. Your principle called he said your coach was worried about you today and told me what happened during P.E. How come you didn't tell me?"
I looked at her and could see a pained expression on her face. It was wrong of me not to tell her. "I'm sorry Mom I just didn't want you to flip." I gave a weak smile.
She returned it and said, "Just tell me next time something happens." And winked.
