An hour! I was changing into what I didn't know exactly and I was helpless against it.
Mom seemed so calm about everything. She said we would talk more after everything happened which sounded nice. I could barely hear anything over the pounding of my head.
All my "symptoms" were 10x worse. I had never been in so much pain. And to top it all off on the parts of my body where the rash was my skin was turning into a weird bluish-green color. This made my skin feel more dry than ever.
After enduring the pain for what felt like an eternity I felt something else. I felt weird. Then I knew I needed water. I got up even though I couldn't walk very well and stumbled to the bathroom. My parents followed behind me but I didn't want them here. I turned around and slammed the door. I felt bad imagining their faces but I had other things to worry about. I turned on the faucet and let it run down my skin. I shouldn't have done that.
The next thing I knew I was on the ground writhing in pain. My whole body was on fire. I felt my insides shifting. I let out a stifled scream.
"Son we're coming in." I barely heard my dads voice.
They opened the door and gasped. "James get the salt now."
I couldn't breathe. My neck was on fire and so was my throat. Suddenly the pain stopped.
I looked around finally noticing that my mom was turning on the bath. This is not a good time fore a bath Mom! I couldn't understand why she was doing this. That is until I tried to get up.
I was only able to lift my torso up. As I sat up I noticed something odd. My legs were gone. No where to be found. Instead I had a greenish-blue tail. I ran my hands over it and quickly stopped it super sensitive.
"Mom..?"
She looked at me and was surprised to see my tail. My tail. This was too weird. "James I need your help it's done! Hurry!!" I wondered why they needed to hurry. But then I was overcome with a coughing fit. I couldn't breathe.
My dad quickly came in and stared wide eyed at me. "Don't just stare help me!" My mother practically screamed.
My mom grabbed my arms and my dad very carefully grabbed my tail. I probably would've said something but at the moment I was trying not to pass out from the lack of oxygen. They set me down gently in the tub full of water. Dad walked over and opened a container and dumped the contents in the tub. It smelled like salt.
I put my neck under and was relieved that I was getting oxygen somehow.
"Mom what just happened?" She looked at my father and repeated what I said. Why did he not hear me? Mom must've seen my puzzled look
"Gray your father can't understand you, I'll have to translate."
"What do you mean translate?" She looked over at my father and said the same thing.
"You're not speaking English."
"How am I not!? I don't know any other language!"
"Every Mer knows the language. And you can speak it anytime in human form. But when in Mer form you can only speak the Mer language."
I carefully dissected what she said. So as long as I was a fish I'd be speaking a language I didn't even know I knew until 5 seconds ago.
"How do I change back to a normal person?"
"Can't yet. Not until after the doctor sees you. And this is completely normal for someone like you."
"So you're saying Dr. Swimmer is goin to give me a check up when I'm like this?" I gesture to my body.
"Don't worry he knows. Goodnight sweetie. Happy birthday." She winked at me.
For my birthday my parents are making me sleep in a bathtub. They probably got me fish food.
