"You got your lunchbox?" you ask Carter in the car.
"Yes."
"Water-bottle?"
"Yes, Mom."
"Books?"
"Mom, I have everything."
"Okay, honey," you smile, then squeal quietly for him. "Your first day of middle school! You excited?"
"I guess," he shrugs.
"Sweetie, don't be nervous. You'll be okay," you say, then pull up to the middle school drop-off zone.
You kiss his forehead. "See you after school, okay?"
"Yeah, see-ya Mom. Love you," he smiles.
"Love you too, baby," you say, as he gets out of the car.
You then turn to see your 5 year old girl, Ivy.
"Now to drop you off for your first day of kindergarten," you smile, and she giggles.
And this all started with saying 'hi' to the new boy at junior high school.
