"Lick," the hacker started by addressing the ghost by his given name, the only one he was allowed to use after they had broken up. That day had always lead heavy in his mind, and even speaking about the moments of pure shock that Lick had to suffer through could still affect him, so talking to his old boyfriend was about the last thing he wanted to do at that moment.
James' strained voice was audible in repeating the ghost's nickname to draw him out of his drastic, I'm-not-going-to-listen-to-you ignorant attitude that he was determined to hold out on in an attempt to get the hacker to go away. But when he heard his own name, the same one he had had before he had been kidnapped by Herobrine and brought to live with the mysterious Entity, he cracked.
"Nicholas, please." Lick inhaled in shock, the air disappearing into his see-through lungs - which, of course, weren't visible though his dark green shirt. The ghost exhaled the same stale, unused air in a sharp reply that almost made James flinch. 'What?' could clearly be heard coming from the masked being's hidden mouth while the other male approached his old friend from the side so as to keep himself in view and not scare the fellow creepypasta.
Talking as calmly as he could muster, the hacker started by saying, "I need your help," while watching Lick for any signs of aggression. The last thing he wanted to do was anger one who could help him rescue (Y/N), if it wasn't already too late for him.
"Why mine? Why can't you just go to Hero and plead with him?" The ghost asked, his voice harsh and tacked with quiet hurt. Anything James had to say, Nicholas was determined to ignore and fight against. He didn't want to appear weak of susceptible to being used any longer, which was a thing he had a habit of doing in the past and had lead him to many unprofitable places in his lifetime that he wished he could go back on.
James sighed at the questions, unwilling to escalate the argument to the point of actual yelling. "Because I already did. I can't do this alone, Nick. I need you to help."
Of course, the being was a little surprised by the emotion that the hacker was forcing into his voice, but it was almost a little too much. It reminded him of the good old days, when he was the one who sat underneath James' arm and received all the caring and support he needed. Those were the days, back before he became aware of what he was being used for, and the potential power he could still hold within him. After he.. glitched, things became different for Lick, but those weren't the horse and buggy days, the nice ones that he'd originally thought would never end. But the desperation in his voice was something that the ghost had never experienced in his words; it seemed more true than usual. Maybe James had finally found his match with you, he thought.
"Fine," Nicholas gave in with a hopeful look at the red-eyed hacker in the hopes that he wasn't just playing. Maybe (Y/N) would have better luck than the three of them.

James, now also backed Lick, had decided to go after Null next because he was one of the more understanding of the two left, which included Brineary and himself. The latter of the mentioned was always by himself and even more stubborn than Nicholas, and the hacker had had enough difficulty with that mule of a ghost and really wasn't in the mood to argue with the less-than-amicable male. So that's how they showed up at a burnt up tree with equally destroyed pieces of building material littering the fire-mauled area.
Lick circled the tree, adjusting his white and black mask as he did so to see if he couldn't locate the completely dark glitch. Of course, he was unable to do so because the being he was searching for was currently in the home of the very person they'd been aiming to avoid for as long as possible: Brineary.
Null and Brineary were both in the same area, the bottom level of the being's home, practicing their dueling together. The glitch swung easy-to-deflect, wide maneuvers that the other had no difficulties in blocking and dodging, especially with how Kirsten was being very careful not to harm the older, more experienced fighter, who obviously felt he could hold his own against much worse than the smaller entity seemed to believe.
