Walking with Shelby in her Stitch onesie was quite weird even by my standards. As if walking into Macca's at half past two in the morning wasn't weird enough. I'm not one to wake up three hours after I fell asleep just to grab fries for fun.
I want to go back to sleep!
The fast food restaurant was relatively empty. Except for the group of backpackers dozing off in one corner and the guy who came in after us. He went straight to the counter and ordered a cup of coffee while Shelby approached an employee cleaning the counter beside a closed register.
"Hey Barbie," she chirped.
I raised an eyebrow as the employee looked up. When I recognized him, my other eyebrow shot up. "Barbie?" I couldn't mask the amusement in my voice.
Kendall McGowan was a big dude of six feet and seven inches. My brothers, Jack and Ben, were friends with him. They used to surf together and when they needed to take me with them, I always ended up watching the surf shop Ken worked at.
He flashed his million dollar smile. "Well well well, if it isn't Lukey. How are you bro?"
I'm not that darned cat.
But he didn't wait for my response and turned his attention to Shelby. "Hiya Blues Clues, what can I do for ya?"
"You should give me your tag instead. You don't seem to need it, anyway. That way, you'd know what onesie I'm wearing," Shelby laughed, flipping the hood so it fell limply on her back. Without the hood, her hair could pass for a bird's nest.
I poked her shoulder to let her know I'm sitting down which she only dismissed with a wave of her ring-clad hand. The cuff of her onesie slid a bit and I caught a glimpse of a tattoo on her wrist.
Why does she have so many of them? How was she allowed to have a tattoo? I barely had my mum's permission for my lip ring.
I shook the thoughts away as I plopped on the nearest seat, my back to the counter. Since there were only a few of us around, I was facing the guy with the coffee a couple of tables in between. He had his elbow propped on the table, holding his phone right at his face.
My phone buzzed in my hoodie's pocket. Pulling it out, I read what it said:
