The world is round. It took a while for humanity to get it. Honestly, for a human we aren't that smart. So due to evolution, it takes a while for every human to figure something out. At least that is my conclusion. It's taking me a while to decide my outfit. I am normally the type of girl to doesn't put a lot of effort into her outfit but today was special. Today was the school 'College' fair. This fair is for the sophomores and juniors to get an idea of which college they wanted to go to. I needed to look presentable so I could network with college scouts and look more approachable. I decided on a red top with a lace detail on the hem and my jeans. Brought together with my boots. To me, red screamed confident. And that's what I needed my future college to hear. Maybe us humans have changed. You know, figuring things out?
I zipped up my boots and slung on my backpack. Turning the knob of my door I headed downstairs. Greeted by my Dad and Mum.
"Sweet pie, don't forget to socialise a bit more." My Dad sighed while handing me 10 dollars for lunch.
"And don't get to caught up with your charming boyfriend! Let him focus on is future today." She smiled. And shunned me out the door so I wouldn't miss the bus. "Bye Ash!"
"Bye Mum!" I waved and waddled over to the bus stop.
Today was college scout day so most of the parents drove their kids to school but mine had work so that wasn't gonna happen. I boarded the bus and took a seat in the middle where no one was sitting. Our school bus wasn't the average yellow one. The interior was air-conditioned and the seats were a black leather. None with blemishes. The floors were a grey linoleum with a few scuff marks near the seats. The exterior was a stark shiny white with the Gold Westbridge Grammar emblem on each side.
I took pride on my school and the town I lived in. According to me it was truly picturesque. Being an isolated small town it had only one high school, one middle school, one elementary school and two kindergartens. So growing up, I knew most of the kids in Westbridge. Surrounded by a forest and home to the Ash River, we were one of the richer towns. There was no school fees yet, we had only 'grammar schools'.
I realised that the bus was approaching school so I put on my student ID lanyard. The bus came to a slow stop in front of the school and I stood up to get off it. I did a small jump onto the ground and headed into school.
The pack of students in the main corridor milled around and the faint murmur of the word 'college' and 'future' was heard everywhere. I pushed my way through crowd to get to my locker. Unlike the luckier people my locker was at the end of this corridor, which meant a lot of suffering to get there. People didn't care whether they trampled all over your new boots or even if they almost choked you because quite often your lanyard got caught on other people, so you got dragged with them. I held on to my lanyard for dear life and eventually got through the abyss of B.O and strongly smelling cologne.
I stepped out of the crowd and was now at the end of the big corridor. The main corridor had smaller corridors branching out of it and it had a dead end. No one really had lockers at the end of the corridor so it was secluded from everyone else. I turned the knob of my lock and put in the combination. It swung open almost giving me a concussion as mine was faulty. I zipped ope my bag and placed my notebooks inside my locker leaving only my laptop, phone and scribble book in my bag. My scribble book is what I use to write some important dates and notes about things. I closed the locker and zipped up my bag. As soon as my locker banged shut the bell rang, signalling the start of school. The freshmen and seniors wandered of to their respective classes while we sophomores and juniors headed to the school hall/auditorium. I loved our auditorium. One side was rows and rows of seats all staggered so we could have a good view of the stage upfront. A black carpet lined the seating area. The seats were also a black leather that carried the fresh aroma of crisp leather. I loved the smell.
We headed into the auditorium and I sat in the middle aisle so I could get out quicker.
"Sophomores and Juniors of Westbridge Grammar. I am proud to present you this years college fair." Announced Mrs Hyde, "Today is a day that may very well establish your future and set you for life. These connections could get you to Harvard. Your schedule has been sent to your phone via text. Please do not open it now as I haven't finished speaking!" She raised her voice, aimed at Chase and his friends who, if you haven't notice are her frenemies. "Very well then, meine wunder kinder!" She put down the microphone and signaled the start. I took out my phone and was promptly greeted by a text. The first college was Yale.
Yale. An ivy league school. Normally I would have Art first as I am in the schools art program there would probably be a representative from the Yale Arts school which is one of the most prestigious programs in the country. But I didn't want to go there so I was going to have to fake that I wanted to be an artist as my profession. I don't know? It's just that i'm not that passionate, that I could do art everyday. I'd rather do something else. I stood up in my seat to proceed to the designated room.
