"Holy Tomatoes!" I shrieked.
"Ash! You K?" Fliss exclaimed. Fliss was a good friend of mine, we had bonded last year over a school project. She was really sweet and kind and was a well liked student who also managed to keep a flawless reputation with the staff.
"Mushrooms!" I stared wide-eyed at what my phone was displaying.
"Oh My Gosh! It's the Shit type, isn't it??!!" She took my phone right out of my hands. Her eyes literally enlarged at what she saw. "You fucking lucky duck!" She smiled, "Totally shiitake worthy!"
"Yup!" I grinned.
"Ahem!" A husky voice cleared their throat. I turned in my seat and realise that Chase was standing right there. His bag slung over one shoulder. "What's all the vegetable swearing about?"
"Well, you see Chase Hughes, your super talented girlfriend just landed herself a one-on-one interview with a Harvard University Scout!" She almost ran out of breath.
"Harvard, huh?" He nodded with satisfaction.
"What's that look about?"
"What look?"
"That smug face!"
"I was not looking smug and anyway, I also landed myself a one-on-one interview with a Yale Scout." He licked his lips and smirked.
"I see... and Chase how exactly would you attend this interview because you have swimming training in 15 minutes?"
"Fuck!"
"Fuck yes." I grinned sheepishly, "Your just going to have skip swimming."
Chase scratched his temple and sighed, "I guess." He made sad face which suddenly turned into a smirk and out of the blue he pulled me into a warm embrace. The smell of his cologne made my senses dance.
"I guess so." I whispered into his chest.
"PDA, GUYS!!" Fliss yelled, waving her hands frantically. I immediately let go of him and straightened out my clothes as if I'd been in a cat fight. Chase huffed and headed to his interview room.
"Good Luck!" I cried.
"To you too!" He waved and headed off. I sighed to myself. It wasn't as easy as it was for Chase to get into an Ivy League. His father is a Yale alum, so he was basically guaranteed a spot at Yale. I on the other hand didn't have any relatives who went to Harvard so it was harder for me. I closed my locker door and proceeded to my meeting room.
"Umm.. Ash?" Fliss said.
"What?"
"You completely ignored me.. AGAIN!" she huffed.
"Soz, Fliss. I was just thinking."
"K, whatever, good luck!"
"Thanks." I waved goodbye. Today had been filled with opportunities but this opportunity was going to be caught by me. They only accept two students from Westbridge to go to Harvard. I needed to be one of them. I had arrived at my meeting room and was ten minutes early. I sat down on one of the chairs that were next to the door. There was a tall guy sitting next to me. He was bopping along to the music that he had plugged in his ears. I couldn't tell who it was as he had a mop of brown hair and was bent over. He was wearing a plain white shirt with black jeans. He looked familiar but I couldn't see his face.
"I think you've forgotten." He pulled out his earphones and turned around to face me.
"Huh?"
"You have a boyfriend."
"I know."
"Why you checking me out?"
"I was not!"
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." He smirked and plugged his earphones back in. He had soft features, big brown doe eyes but a strong jawline. "Seriously, it's creepy."
"What!"
"You just keep staring at me."
"Sorry." I sunk into my chair and stared at the wall instead.
"Woah, you k?"
"Huh?"
"I didn't mean to make you sad."
"You didn't." I half smiled at him. We just stared at each other for a while.
"Ahem." He cleared his throat and went back to listening to music. This guy seemed nice, and I'd seen him before. Probably one of Chase's friends. He looked like that type. I heard a click of the door next to me and a girl walked out. She mouthed good luck. I smiled back and proceeded into the room. It was a normal classroom, but all the desks had been pushed to the back of the room and one remained, at which a tall slim women sat. She had her hair drawn up into a high ponytail and several bracelets encircling her wrist.
"Hello, you must be River." She greeted me with a broad smiled as she opened up a file.
"Yes, that's me." I grinned back.
"Have a seat." She gestured towards the chair and I hurriedly sat down.
"So, River I've heard from your principal that you have been aiming at Harvard since you were in kindergarten?"
I blushed, "Yeah."
"That is pure dedication and I think you'd be a good fit." She slid a information pack across the table.
"Thank you, and I had a few questions."
"Go on."
"Say, I wanted to enroll a friend into Harvard. This friend thinks that they won't get in but I have a strong feeling that they will."
"I see. River, your friend needs to be willing to go. This friend has to write their own college essay."
"I know but I'll convince them. Can I have another information pack please?"
"Sure," she delved in her bag for another one, "I have your details already so that won't be a problem, on your way out could you call in the next person?"
"Yep, who's next?"
"I believe the name is Ethen Hart."
