Spirit was lying in Stein's lap as the sun when down when they saw a billow of sand on the horizon.

"Spirit!" Spirit jumped to his feet and turned into a scythe and Stein grabbed him.

"What is that thing?" Spirit asked.

"I have no idea." They watched as it neared and then stopped. As the figure drew closer, they realized it was Kid.

"You startled us Kid." Spirit said as he changed back. "Where is Maka?"

"It's not sundown yet. She'll be here soon." Kid dumped a heap of wood on the ground and tossed his pistols and they transformed.

"My neck is so sore!" Liz said, massaging it.

"Kid set up the fire. We'll have more wood when the others come back."

Kid went off to do so and Stein went to grab the food.

"I'm a pig, a louse, a useless cow! Such utter garbage cannot be allowed to live! I deserve to die!"

"Kid what's wrong?" Spirit asked, walking over.

"He can't arrange the logs perfectly." Spirit sighed and lit a match from a box that was sitting beside the logs and threw it in.

"No it wasn't symmetrical!" Liz and Patti grabbed Kid and dragged him off to his tent as the other came back, adding wood to a pile beside the fire.

"Here's the food." Stein handed them their dinner.

"You had food this entire time?!?" Black Star yelled.

"Yes." Spirit said.

"Then what was the fire for?!?"

"You'll need it." Stein said as he and Spirit sat down. "The desert isn't a warm place at night." The kids sat around the fire and laughed as they ate and Spirit and Stein sat there, quietly observing.

Kid, Liz, and Patti eventually cane back and joined in until they, one by one, went to their tents to sleep.

"I miss our youth Spirit." Stein glanced over at the weapon.

"Things were much less complicated." Stein smiled and stood, helping Spirit to his feet. They silently walked back to their tent and they both changed with their backs to each other. Spirit collapsed on the ground where his blankets were laid out and sighed. Stein smiled and sat beside him, turning the screw in his head.

Stein's eyes wandered over Spirit's shirtless body and he smiled. Spirit opened his eyes and chucked at Stein's smile.

"What?" Spirit asked as Stein smiled. Stein leaned over Spirit and gently kissed him. Spirit sighed and wrapped his arms around Stein's neck. Spirit inhaled sharply when Stein's cold hand brushed his stomach. Stein chuckled and ran his hand down spirit's chest and stomach, stopping at his hips.

"Stein." Spirit breathed.

"Shh. We don't want to wake anyone." Stein kissed the weapon's neck and shoulders, making him gasp. Spirit grabbed Stein's hair and pulled the man closer as Stein ran his hands over Spirit's hips. Spirit whimpered and Stein smiled, pulling away from him.

"Sleep." Stein said, kissing Spirit's lips gently and pulling him close to him. Spirit sighed and rested his head on Stein's chest and slowly drifted off to sleep as Stein ran his fingers through his silky red hair.
