"You will always be my sister, even if our parents aren't the same."

Those are the last words Leon said before she left him hours ago inside of his hospital room, they keep ringing in Samantha's ears. She herself just knew about it. Had her brother never got hurt, she would have never known.

She now sits on a chair out of her brother's, Leon, room, with her five years old sister's head on her lap.

Her mother's voice — or so she thought; is loud enough for her to hear; and it hurts her so much to listen to every word.

"I will not keep her with us," Rebecca, as in the woman who raised her, yells at her husband, Kyle, "They will come for her again."

Samantha only wants to know who is coming for her. It is her life though, but they knew much more about it.

"I cannot leave the girl alone; she's twelve for God's sake!" Kyle's voice was louder that his wife's, it is surprising that no one came to tell them to stay quiet at the hospital, "I made a promise, and I will never break it."

"Suit yourself." As footsteps get closer to Samantha she rises from her seat. Rebecca steps out of the room and shoots daggers at Samantha, the latter's eyes go watery at the change of the woman that she has always thought that it's her mother.

"It's because of you! I wish you never existed! Because if so, none of this would've happe—" before she could add more salt to the twelve-years old girl's wound, Kyle slaps her across the face.

"I never thought you were this low Rebecca."

Rebecca lets a couple of tears fall at the sudden humiliation and storms towards the elevator after glaring one last time at Samantha.

Kyle groans and turns to look at Samantha, who was biting her lip to stop herself from crying, his heart breaks at the sight before his eyes.

Hugging her he mumbles. "This isn't your fault sweetheart."

"Then whose fault is it?" She bites the word 'Dad' back; and she barely says her sentence before bursting into tears.

Kyle doesn't know what to answer, he couldn't say it, but of course it's not her fault. It's not her fault that she has a sick family.

"Can I see Leon?" She whispers again the tears streaming down her face, Kyle only nods and gets Candice then steps into the room.

The monitors' peeping makes Samantha wonder how many times it'd take for Leon to get okay. But again, the look on the ten-years old boy says that it'd take way too much time.

She thinks how much does it hurt to get run over by a car. She heard the doctors say that he has a lot of broken things that she can't even remember.

Holding his hand, she mumbles a prayer and hopes he gets well soon, and that's when Leon opens his eyes.

Kyle goes to the other side of the bed and says encouragingly.

"Hey buddy, how are you doing?"

It takes Leon seconds to answer with 'fine'.

"Leon," Upon hearing his name from his sister, Leon tries to turn his head, but when he can't, Samantha stands up so her he can see her, "I'm here, right here." She gives him a warm smile through her tears.

"Don't cry." Leon mumbles to her, making more tears fall. But she brushes them off immediately, wanting to look strong for her brother.

"I won't," her fingers drawing invisible circles at the back of his hand, "Just get well, okay?"
