"Nearing of the Scarlet Dread,

Lazing on The Living and The Dead."

Michael's body was lying beside her bed and his head was hanging on top of the dressing table with spikes of the mirror, in such a way that a spike was coming out through one of his eyes; it was looking as if some one had forcefully stabbed it inside his left eye and the blood was trickling from the neck to all over the dressing table. Johnathan was sitting on the desk chair with one of his leg on the other, hands resting on a knee, was breathing through the cigarette and his blank eyes were penetrating the dead silence of the room. Kat was sitting on her bed. Her hands, shaking like the dry leaves; her lips, seeking a whisper but, her wits were not collected. Her thoughts were running all the way here and there and she was trembling in terror.
She gathered all her psyche and managed to lay a question on that dreary silence, "What....what was that?"
"It was the need of the hour", Johnathan answered while taking a puff of the cigarette.
"But he was one of us!" She replied instantly.
"If one wants to live a long life then one needs to own a pair of Wide eyes and Open ears." He took a puff of the cigarette and added further, "She sent no one but me; and I can't doubt that they can do such a mistake of employing people in between my way." He again hooked the cigarette in his mouth.
She looked towards the trickling blood and said, "But spilling blood is not the only option one is always left with." She stood up from her bed, and walked towards the body and sat beside it, "Can't we do anything, there must be some way ?"
He took out the cigarette and asked her in a steady voice, "What ?" After a pause he added, "There's no way now." Saying the last line he rested his back a bit on the back of the chair.
"How can you be so cruel!" She took a breath and while turning towards him said, "Tell her who has sent you that I don't want any safety, I am bold enough to deal with all this."
He closed his eyes and said, "I am not her servant, Master asked me to save his gems by my life, that's what I am doing." He only completed his sentence and opened his eyes, looked a bit towards the window and then gestured Kat to stand low wherever she is. He was looking with the corner of his eyes towards the window which was on his left. She wasn't sure about his attention towards the window; he was looking as if listening to something. The moment she tried to ask something about what was happening, she heard a voice. It was a knock on the main door.
Johnathan bent towards her and said, "May I ?"
She glared at him for a second and frowned her brows, "I don't want anymore headless bodies in my house."
He gestured in agreement, "As you say."
She stood up and started walking towards the mouth of the house. Coming out of her room, she descended the stairs on her left and took a few steps forward to reach the main door. There was no one outside when she saw out of the peephole, the thing she was habitual of. She gathered her courage and caught the door handle in her hand, turned it a bit towards her left and slowly opened the door.
