There's Double

Chapter 7

Stella awoke to a burning smell. She jerked up as the smoke alarms went off. She threw off the blanket and ran to the alarm. She turned it off and looked in the kitchen. There stood Thomas attempting to make breakfast. She stood there and smiled as all the sides appeared to watch the show. Roman cleared his throat causing Thomas to jump and drop the pan. Thomas jumped and accidentally put his hand down on the stove causing him to scream in pain and jumping back again. Stella ran to pick up the pan, turn off the stove, and make it to Thomas in under 10 seconds. Tears were streaming down his face as he held his hand close to his chest. Stella gently grabbed his wrist and slowly brought it away from him. When she looked his now red and raw hand she grimaced.

"Is it that bad" Patton whispered. Stella looked at them to get the kitchen cleaned up as she led Thomas out of the kitchen hiding his hand from the others. She walked him down the hall and led him to her room. She set him on the bed as she went to the bathroom to get her first-aid kit. As she came back Thomas was trembling staring at his hand.

"Thomas" she questioned as she tried to get his attention. He looked up and she sighed as she didn't want to put her brother in any more pain. "Thomas this is gonna hurt."

"No."

"Thomas I have to or else it's gonna get infected" she sighed as she grabbed his wrist. She dabbed the cloth across his hand. Thomas flinched and screamed in pain. Stella flinched at his scream, wanting to stop but knew if she didn't would only benefit one person. Soon she finished dabbing his hand and took an adhesive wrap to wrap his hand. As she finished, she heard yelling from downstairs. She told Thomas to wait there as she went downstairs and headed to the conflict.

"You just had to make noise didn't you Roman" Virgil yelled.

"It wasn't my fault" he yelled back.

"Actually Roman it was your fault" Logic said, annoyance in his voice.

"Come on guys stop arguing" Patton sighed.

"Shut up Patton" Logan yelled. Stella watched as Patton shrunk back away from everybody else.

"Logan" Stella screamed as she was now filled with anger. The sides froze and looked at Logan then finally Stella.

"You yelled" Logan sighed.

"Oh really! I thought she whispered" Roman exclaimed.

"Hey watch it" Logan shot back.

"All of you knock it off" Stella exclaimed, "It's not Roman's fault. Don't you see what you're doing to Patton!"

"Oh Patton's fine" Logan said.

"Is he really" Stella questioned, making her way to Patton. They all looked to see Patton silently crying in the corner. They all stared at Logan who out of shame shrunk down and back to Thomas' mind. Stella smiled at Patton as she moved his hands away from his face. He tried to move away but before he could, Stella wrapped him in a hug. Patton slowly calmed down as he stayed in her arms where the comfort and warmth has best.

"Is he gonna be okay" Patton whispered.

"I think he is gonna be just fine but I will take him to the hospital to get an expert to look at it" she explained.

She looked back to see Roman and Virgil with their heads down. She looked at Patton and moved her head in their direction. Patton smiled and moved to give them a hug. They both smiled as they accepted the hug.

"We're so sorry Patton. We should've paid attention to you during our arguing."

"It's okay I can't stop every argument you guys have" he smiled.

Stella smiled as she looked in the doorway to see Thomas and Logan standing there. Thomas nudged Logan and Logan sighed in response. Stella tapped Patton's shoulder and motioned to Logan. Patton smiled as he looked to see his friend standing there with his head down in shame.

"Patton I-" Logan managed to get our before being cut off by arms wrapped around him in a tight embrace.

"I forgive you" Patton whispered. Logan smiled as he returned the hug from his friend. Stella walked over to Thomas and looked at her phone. A text from Joan said that they were out front. As they reached the doorway she turned to see all the sides sink down to be within Thomas. She closed the door and headed to the driveway.

They waited as the doctor looked at Thomas' hand. He kept making that annoying sound doctors did when they examined their patients.  "Well it's a third degree burn. What you've done is great. It keeps it from getting infected. I'm gonna make a prescription to help with the pain."

" Thank you doctor" they smiled as he re-wrapped Thomas' hand. They left and went to go pick up Thomas' prescription.

When they returned home they said goodbye to Joan and made their way back to their house. Thomas and Stella went and sat on the couch. Stella passed out almost instantly. Thomas smiled as he covered his sister with a blanket as he moved to the other couch. He laid down and soon was asleep.
