~Brooklyn's POV~
I wake up to 'Havana' by Camila Cabello ringing in my ears. I groan and open one eye to glare at my phone laying on my king-sized bed. one thing I didn't mention about my family, we're rich and my parents are constantly working. Brayden and I are often on our own, we know to stay out of each other's life's but help each other when we need it, that' how we live. anyway, I stare at my phone debating on whether I should answer Rani or not. I really should answer my best friend. I swipe my finger across my phone to answer and put it on speaker so I can continue to keep my eyes closed.
"Brook! you finally answered!" she shouts excitedly
"it's Saturday morning, I was sleeping" I state
"whatever, can I come over? I'm bored"
"sure, I have nothing to do"
"okay cool, I'll be there is about an hour"
"bye," the line went dead. I sit up properly and pick up my phone, after reading and removing all the notifications, replying to a few, I smile at my lock screen. a picture mum took of Brayden and me when he had a family road trip to visit some family earlier this year. we're in the car wearing similar clothes and we don't seem too amused, that car was so squishy.
I click off my phone and stand up walking into my bathroom. I strip off my clothes and put them in my laundry basket before stepping into the shower, the warm water cleansing my body. I step out, dry off, braid my hair and change into some Nike shorts and a large hoodie. I walk over to my window and open is about halfway to let the fresh air seep into my room.
my eyes land on the room directly across from mine. there is no longer mould on the window and the crumbling wallpaper has been replaced with light grey paint. the skirtings are now white and the dark wood stained furniture the room. in the center is a bed, a sleeping figure under the thin white sheet.
Brooklyn! stop staring! thank the lord he is asleep. since when have I become so creepy?
I turn on my heel and exit my room to navigate my way through the halls and down the stairs. in the kitchen, Mum and Dad were drinking coffee, dad reading the paper and mum writing something for her work. I say a 'good morning' and place a kiss on both their cheeks.
"there is a race on tomorrow," dad tells me
"I'll be there" I reply before walking away. dad is a fan of V8s we watch most races together and even attended a few in our time, it keeps our daddy-daughter bond alive. I grab a pre-made smoothie out of the fridge and plop down on the couch. I open up my phone taking a sip of my drink and go onto messages. I click on Brayden's contact and type a little message to him.
Brooklyn- good luck with your game today, bring home a win!
brayden has one of his football games, I don't go to many but I always wish him good luck. "Brooklyn, sweetie" mum calls from the kitchen.
"yea?" I reply
"why Brayden gets back, I want you two to invite the neighbours over for dinner tomorrow"
"okay"
"can come up with a meal plan"
"same as usual?"
"yes and put together a list of what we need"
"okay," every time we have someone over for dinner it is very formal to make a good impression and impress them. a homemade -by mum and I- three core meal, I have to wear and dress and Brayden has to wear a button up shirt to 'look presentable' we're used to it. I look back down at my phone to see a reply from Brayden.
Brayden - thanks, sis, planning on it!
Brooklyn - why you get back we need to invite over the neighbours for dinner tomorrow.
Brayden - okay, what's for dinner?
Brooklyn - haven't worked that out yet.
Brayden - okay, game is about to start.
Brooklyn - do you best out there
I stand up and walk into the kitchen so I can wash out my dirty cup and leave it to dry. walking back into the lounge area, I the door opens and Rani walks right in, she is very well come here so she never knocks and comes over whenever.
"come on," she pulls me up to my room and locks the door behind us.
"We have new neighbours so the creepy room isn't so creepy anymore," I say smiling at my friend
"it's clean" I glance over to the window just in time to see one of the two doors open, Ashton walks in soaking wet with just a towel around his waist. ignoring the heat rising up to my cheeks, I rush over to the window and close the blind. I turn back to Rani in silence. after staring at each other for a while we bust into a fit of giggles.
"it's really dark and stuffy, can you open the blind and window?" Rani asks, she's right, it is.
"there is a possibly naked man on the other side of this" I warn
"I know, if he doesn't want us to see then he can close his blinds" I roll my eyes and open up the blind and window about halfway.
"your neighbour is a hot guy"
"shut up Rani!"
