Max's POV:
"Max? Are you okay?" Reyna asks me. I look at her and she and Clarisse are staring at me worriedly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. We just had a battle with the Mogadorians here before," I answer, looking back at the base.
"How are we going to get in?" Clarisse asks Reyna and I and I quickly think of an idea.
"I'll turn myself in. Setrákus Ra is obviously still on the Anubis, so no one here can take away my legacies. So I'll distract them while you two sneak in and find One. Take this with you," I explain to Reyna and Clarisse, handing them the tablet.
"Are you sure, Max? That's really dangerous," Reyna points out as Clarisse takes the tablet from my hands and I shrug my shoulders.
"I'm a demigod and a Garde, everything I do is dangerous," I reply, then hide my black Loric dagger in the waistband of my jeans.
"Okay. Be careful," Clarisse tells me and I smile half-heartedly at her.
"Am I ever?" I ask her, then walk up to the front doors of the base. Three guards quickly spot me and aim their guns at me. I put my hands up in surrender and the three guards look surprised. They know who I am, so they obviously know that I don't give up easily.
One guard walks up to me when I get to the entrance and he grabs one of my arms. I quickly punch him in the face and the other two guards quickly rush in and pull me back, holding both of my arms. The first guard punches my stomach and orders the other two to bring me in and lock me up. I fake struggle as they lead me inside. I need to make sure they believe I'm actually putting up a fight instead of just distracting them.
They lead me through the dark, narrow hallways of Dulce Base. I look around frantically for any sign of One.
"What are you doing way out here, Max?" One of the guards asks me, still dragging me across the floor with the other guard.
"Oh, just checking the sights. I think I'm going to see a bit more when I get out. Any suggestions?" I ask him and the guard sighs in exasperation.
"Another goddam John Smith," he mutters, obviously annoyed.
"My boyfriend? Oh yeah, he's cool," I reply as I stomp one of the guard's foot. He yells in pain and I punch his face. The other guard restrains me from behind. I struggle against him, still faking it, until the other guard calls in for backup. I slam the guard restraining me against the wall and he lets go of me, groaning in pain. He slides down the wall and I rush to the other guard and punch his stomach. I'm about to punch him again when three other guards storm towards me. One pulls me back and they all drag me to a cell in the middle of the hallway.
I know someone in one of these cells heard the commotion I made with the guards cause I hear someone banging something metal-like against the bars of the closed cell.
"Ugh, quiet her down!" One of the guards dragging me to a cell orders one of the guards in the back. He nods his head and walks to the front of the cell. The moment he looks through the bars, a pale hand in a fist punches him through the bars and I know who it is- One.
I look around and realize the only other people in this hallway besides One and I are the guards. No one's here to see me use my legacies.
I focus on the guards around me and trigger my telekinesis, hoping to blast them all away from me.
Nothing happens.
I start to panic and try to use my legacy again but nothing happens. Setrákus Ra can't be here, right?
I start to really fight against the guards pulling me towards an open cell, but I'm too late. There are five guards and only one of me. I still have my dagger in the waistband of my jeans but I can't reach it since the guards are pulling me by my arms.
I struggle but can't stop them as they throw me into the cell with only a dusty bed, toilet, and a broken sink. I scowl as the guards slam the door shut and lock the cell door. They start to leave but I can still make out what they're saying as their words echo throughout the damp hallway.
"Get Octavian. He'll want to hear about this," one of the guards says and I freeze up. Octavian is here. He's the one canceling my legacies, and One's as well.
After a minute or so, when I'm sure there are no guards around, I silently call out to One.
"Hello?" I call out, praying to get an answer. There's a silent pause until someone from the other locked cell answers.
"Yeah? Who are you?" A female voice calls out and I breathe shakily in relief. One's here. I finally found her.
"I-I'm Number Two. Are you One?" I ask, though I basically already know the answer.
"Y-Yes. Two? Is that really you?" She asks me with a shaky voice.
"Yeah, it's me. Don't worry, I'm going to get us out of here," I promise and pull out my black Loric dagger. I stand up and pick the lock of my cell door. Soon enough I hear a small click and I swing the cell door open. I rush to the only other cell that's closed and immediately see her with her flowing blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She'd be a lot prettier than she already is if her skin wasn't so pale and the bags under her eyes. She looks extremely tired but excited at the same time.
"One," I breathe out. She stands up and smiles at me. I quickly pick the lock of her cell and open the door. The moment I open it, One embraces me in a huge hug and I hug her back tightly.
"I've missed you so much," One whispers to me. I don't remember much about the trip to earth from Lorien, but I do know that One and I were extremely close. She was like a big sister to me and now that's she's back with me, I have a feeling it's going to be that way again, and I'm definitely not complaining.
"I missed you, too. Let's get out of here," I tell her, breaking apart from our hug. She nods her head, looking determined, and we both rush down the hall, almost free.
