The next day, Aleks was running towards the bus stop, he had gotten up late and the bus was already pulled up to the stop. His eyes widened when the bus doors closed. The bus started to slowly move forward as the driver looked to see if any cars were coming up behind him. Aleks ran faster, though he knew he wouldn't make it. He pushed himself to go faster and tripped right in front of the bus doors, his hand pounded against the plastic. The driver, startled, looked towards the doors and saw the pale boy face down on the ground. Chuckling, he slowly opened the doors and Aleks got up at the same speed, dusting off his shirt and pants as he huffed. Aleks crawled onto the bus and quickly walked to his seat, sinking into the soft cushion. He laid his head against the cold glass window and tried to steady his face breathing.
Jake's stop came up and he sat next to Aleks again, patting his shoulder softly. They greeted each other and Aleks laid his head on Jake's shoulder, groaning, "I don't wanna go to school."
"Isn't school going good for, though?" Jake asks amused.
"Yeah... Doesn't mean I wanna go."
"Seems reasonable."
"So, Jake, how are you?"
"Oh look at that," Jake pulls out his phone and holds it up to his ear. "Oh yeah, hey dude. I'm just on my way to school."
Aleks sat up and slapped Jake's arm. "Shut up, I know no one called you." He said, laughing shortly.
Jake chuckles and slips his phone back into his pocket. Minutes pass and the bus pulls up to school slowly, as if it too didn't want to be here. Aleks and Jake stepped off and are immediately greeted by Eddie.
"Hey Jake, Aleks." he says, smiling a little.
"Hey Eddie... What's up?" Aleks asks him, giving a confused look.
"Oh nothing, just happy that you and Jakey here are friends. Wouldn't want the new kid to have no friends." Eddie giggles and walks with the two inside. Jake sneaks a smack against Eddie's arm behind Aleks' back and Eddie giggles louder. Jake rolls his eyes and softly rams against Aleks' side with his own.
"So, Aleks, how's school life?" Eddie asks, leaning against Jake's other side as they walked.
"It's alright. Pretty soon I'll be getting in trouble for hitting people who ask too much, though." Aleks answers, smirking slightly.
"Oh..." Eddie mumbled, hiding his face on Jake's arm while Jake just chuckled.
"Hey now, no need to go hitting people for asking questions, that's only okay if you're an interrogator." Jake says.
Aleks shoves Jake and sends him a playful glare, "Shut the fuck up." He mumbles.
The day passes by regularly for the first few hours, and then science class rolls around. Aleks walks into his class and sits in his seat, pulling out his notebook for note taking. He liked science class because it was his only class where he sat alone, the only class where he couldn't be bothered by anyone because he didn't know anyone there. That all changed when a pile of stuff was dropped on the desk in the space next to him. He looked up and saw a kid, who looked like he didn't want to be there, standing up and staring at the teacher as he spoke to him.
"Class, meet Max, he's new to the school so please help him around." The teacher introduces the kid.
"I don't need help." Max mumbles, sinking into his seat beside Aleks. He looked down at his own notebook and started fumbling with the small thread that poked out from the seam.
The teacher started explaining the worksheet they were to do but Aleks wasn't focused on the words flowing from his mouth, he was focused on trying not to focus on the new kid. He looked attractive, Aleks wouldn't deny, and he looked somewhat nice, but you couldn't judge someone by how they looked. All Aleks knew, Max could have been a real asshole and he could hate talking to others. But, Max was new, like Aleks, and he's acting just like Aleks did when he first arrived. Aleks just had to try to talk to him, had to try to befriend the new kid. Aleks swallowed the lump in his throat and just when he gathered enough courage, Max spoke up.
