Winter cometh with wild geese flying
southward, southward.... south away
and the nights grow ever colder
with the shortening of the day.
Winter cometh with the throstle
that Redwing bird from foreign clime
borne in upon Icelandic breath
herald of the freezing time.
Winter cometh and squirrels stash
hording against the famine days
garnering ever autumns bounty
from the plentiful woodland ways.
Winter cometh and the Long Night Moon
silver white o'er shivering land
grimly shadows old Jack Frost
a-spreading of his diamond band.
Winter cometh, nature's passion
North wind keening in savagery
snow is falling ever faster
blizzards sweeping wild and free.
