The Dance

Spiralling through the sunbeams

a flash of brilliance bright

a gift of my wood-dreams

a precious, holy sight.

Spinning, swirling, skirting

a twirling dance of spring

wild and passionate and flirting

romance on the wing.

The black and white and scarlet

'midst forty shades of green

a crown prince and a starlet

a symbol of Nature's dream.

In the wood in the sunlight

in this sylvan cathedral vast

dancing through the leaf-light

 the future and the past.
