"Vanessa help me with the generator.. the food needs to stay cool!"
"Yes Aunt Jillian." I followed her to the far back of the kitchen to help her, Nan and Gramps with the generator and other things that needs to be done when the power goes out.
I kept thinking about that guy in the diner. Why did the lightning flash whenever I made eye contact with him? It was probably just a concidence. But my name?
Right as we are about to start the generator the power comes back on. All the lights flicker back on, and the sounds of the grill and fridge come back on.
"The hell?" Gramps whispers, shaking his head while looking up from his work on the generator.
"Hey guys come here! It's all sunny outside again!" My cousin Carmen runs in.
"What weird weather huh?" My Nan askes me as we walk back out into the diner.
The weather was unchanged.
"Carmen what are you talking about? It looks the exact same." Gramps said walking over to a window and looking outside, which was still dark.
"I swear it was sunny just two seconds ago!" Carmen said looking confused.
"I'm going to check on the guests with Mom." Aunt Jillian states walking away with Nan.
"It's okay Carmen," I said, walking over to pat her back. " it was probably just an open spot in the clouds where the sun got through."
Carmen shook her head. "No there were no clouds in the sky, I swe-.."
"She's right the sky was clear." I hear a male voice from behind me. "No clouds anywhere." I turned around, it was the guy from the table. We make eye contact. Big flash of lightning, followed by thunder. I could see the scruff under his chin.
"Shane." He said holding a hand up to shake.
What?
"Nice to meet you Shane, I'm Joe." Gramps shakes his hand.
No no no no his name is not Shane.
"Nice to see you sir, I love your diner." Shane steals a glance at me.
See you? He's met Gramps?
"You've been here before son?" Gramps asks.
"Yeah a lot when I was younger."
"Oh great!" Gramps starts washing the table nearest to us.
"Vanessa." Shane looks at me. Boom lightning. He didn't say it in a question he just kind of stated it.
"Yes that's Vanessa, I'm Carmen." Carmen steps infront of me and shakes his hand smiling, obviously attracted to him.
It must just be a coincidence.
"Nice to see you Carmen." Shane shakes back looking kind of confused.
What's with the nice to see you? Have we met him before?
"Is there a question I can answer for you?" Carmen asks, batting her eyelashes.
"Uhh." Shane looks at me. Flashes of lightning once again.
Why is his name Shane, why does he look like that Shane but older? Why does lightning keep flashing whenever I make eyecontact with this guy? What is going on?
Aunt Jillian calls Carmen.
"Excuse me for just a minute." Carmen huffs to go see what her mother wants.
Why is this day so weird? Why are weird things happening?
"Uh Vanessa?" Shane looks at me.
I look up from my hands, flash lighting, boom thunder.
