This chapter is dedicated to JosefinaCohenn for being my first reader and encouraging me with comments. Thank you.
"Maybe this might actually work" Ayomide said in a far away tone. And I needed no one to tell me that she was already imagining me in a lacy, white, wedding dress walking to the altar to meet Mayo, the groom, on a good Saturday morning.
"Ayo?". I groaned. "Cut it out, will you? ".
"She could be right ,Oyin, you know? You never can tell". Ameenah joined in.
"Why do I feel like the both of you are conspiring against me? ".
They seemed to pay no heed to me and kept on planning my wedding.
The both of them do make a good team in frustrating me, don't they?
Ayomide 'Ayo' is a tall, pretty girl with caramel colored skin and wide, inquisitive eyes who also happens to be my roommate. She is slender as opposed to Ameenah's curvy figure, while I'm just in between *sigh*. I think I need to meet whosoever is in charge of distributing body proportions and have a heart to heart talk with him or her. I mean, I feel so cheated upon *sniff*.
Enough of the distraction. What was I talking about again? Oh! Yes! Ayo!
She just arrived from home today. We've been roommates since last year so she knows all there is to know about my relationship with Joshua.
She and Ameenah are my BFFs. I had gotten to know her when I needed a roommate. She had come into my life since then and I didn't for once regret having her for a roommate. She is fun and spontaneous. She is outspoken and has stood up for me more times than I can count on one hand.
Now people, it's not like I can't fight my own battles, but sometimes it's refreshing to just sit back and watch the angels fight for you.
Can I get an amen?
She also, as you may have noticed, has a thing for wild imaginations.
She was already in the hostel when I got back from school. She saw my angry expression and did not wait to ask me to give her the gist. I gave her the details and she was so giddy that I had to ask her if all was well.
Ameenah had burst in through the door with excitement mixed with confusion written all over her face. She had heard the gist from the...You know, 3G. Who else?
Her first instinct was to make sure I was fine.
With that out of the way, she had teamed up with Ayo to plan my wedding.
The both of them must have gotten to the "kiss the bride" part because Ayo's mouth was in a pout like she was about to kiss someone.
"Can we please keep this conversation strictly PG 10?". I said, jolting both of them out of their little bubble.
"Where's the fun in that?" Ayo whined, like a baby.
"Girls, I need a plan. What do I do?"
The truth is he could have asked any other person to be his girlfriend, why me? He also said that he needed my help but he didn't act like it. He didn't even give me a ride in his car for heaven's sake.
"Why don't you talk with him and clear this out tomorrow". That was Ameenah.
Believe me, not only is that girl a beauty, she's also got brains. Usman is seriously one lucky dude.
"Sounds like a good idea to me". Ayo concurred.
"You're right. I'll do just that". I found myself agreeing with them for the first time in the past few minutes.
"Where would I be without you guys?". I said, out of gratitude.
