Her hands scrambled around the metal tray, in search for something to end the bleeding. Her heart picked up pace as her eyes couldn't find the right injection.
"Julia! Injection 42!" A male nurse screamed at Julia, making Julia's hands scramble even quicker.
"It isn't here!" She cried out, the patient's breathing becoming choked.
"We're losing him" a female doctor said this time, not exactly helping the situation.
"For godsake, Julia!" The male nurse screamed at her once again.
"I-" Julia started, but before she could start she was cut off by a deafening beep.
Shit.
Julia's arms dropped to her side, her breaths coming out as soft sighs and whimpers. She dropped her head, some stray hairs dropping from her messy bun over her face. Ten patients had died because of her...that year. She felt awful, of course she did, and the doctors always made sure she did.
Without another word, Julia scuffled away from the room, a cigarette calling her name. After being hit with depression, smoking just happened to be an escape.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Smoke escaped her lips, she could already feel her lungs slowly rotting, but she couldn't care. She shoved her hand into her leather jacket pocket and took another deep inhale from the cigarette.
Julia couldn't help but let a laugh escape her as a man came stumbling out, making growling noises. Thinking he was drunk, Julia spoke out to the man.
"One too many pints, I imagine" She called, crushing the cigarette under her sneaker. The man stumbled closer to her, making more laughter erupt from her.
"Woah-h" She repeated, as the man lashed out to her, just close enough to rip the pendant from around her neck. It hit the ground with a small clash and Julia couldn't help but look down before revealing half the man's face to be missing, skull showing.
"What the fu-" She began, but before she's could finish, a woman stabbed it in the head with a kitchen knife, making the lifeless body fall to the floor within seconds.
Julia's face dropped with fear as she stared at the woman in disbelief. As the woman stepped forward and reached her hand out Julia automatically stepped back, making the woman's face grow with worry.
"We won't hurt you" The woman spoke with a thick Irish accent, obviously in a hurry.
"We?" Julia spoke, eyes still diverting to the he body on the floor, fear clearly radiating from her tiny figure.
The woman sidestepped, revealing a small girl with blonde hair matted to her face from the amount of sweat she was producing.
"Listen, we can't stay here" The woman spoke again, dragging Julia's attention away from the child.
"Who are you? What's happening?" Julia spoke, just realising how crazy the day had just turned.
"What the fuck was in that cigarette?" Julia said quietly, staring at the squashed cigarette on the ground.
"Seeing as your a nurse, I thought you would've known. I'm Aurora, this is Kat" Aurora spoke, using her hands to talk as well as her mouth.
Julia gulped down the lump forming in her throat, and turned her head to see more zombie like things going towards them.
"We need to go! Now!" Aurora screamed before grabbing Kat's hand and sprinting further up the alleyway. In matter of panic, Julia sprinted behind them, gaining speed with each stride. However the girls all stopped to one noise that deafened the rest.
Gunshot.
