Out of the lavish shrubbery that grew outside the palace came a small brown figure. The boy was covered in a growth of sandy brown fur with deep yellow ears, resembling half-boy, half-lion. He chortled at the sight of the visitor, and then motioned to Edgar that he would take care of his horse. Edgar eagerly dismounted and thanked the boy for his help. Unexpectedly, the creature began to speak in a low, rumbling voice. "The name's Samson. You're quite a small lad, really think you can be a Chaser someday?? You can trust me, I'll show you the ropes. Just stay out of Hark's way and you'll be fine. "
Edgar nodded and made no effort to reply, even though his mind was reeling with questions. Who was this Samson creature really?? Why was he working here, of all places?? And mostly, who was Hark??
Blood pounded through his ears as Edgar stepped towards the grand entryway. The doors whooshed open and he gingerly stepped inside. They closed silently, and Edgar could hear the click of a lock once they had closed.
"Well," Edgar grimaced, "There's no turning back now."
