When Edgar turned to focus on the long hallway he now faced, he was greeted by a very utilitarian hallway as might be found in a hospital. The green and white tiles offered the only source of color, for the walls and ceiling were a standard shade of white. Cautiously, Edgar proceeded forward, the pounding rhythm of his heavy boots echoed through the empty space. He passed a door, also painted white, that said KEEP OUT in large black letters. Edgar decided he had better try a different door. "All this white," he thought, " I wonder how they keep it so clean."

By now Edgar was approaching another door, this one labeled NEW RECRUITS. He reckoned he should enter, so after running a hand through his dusty hair and taking two deep breaths, he grasped the handle and swung open the door. Inside, everything was painted white like in the hallway, the only difference was a large red button on top of the desk labeled ASSISTANCE. His hands trembled as he reached out to press it, but as soon as his finger made contact with the polished surface, a whirlwind of green feathers flew out of the top desk drawer and shrieked, "Don't touch my button!!! I just scrubbed it!!!"

Startled, Edgar quickly withdrew his hand and straightened up. "I- I- I'm sorry, m'am, I didn't mean to-"

She cut him off, "You woke me up from my nap!!! Recruits aren't supposed to be here!!! We start taking in boys tomorrow!!! Come back at nine o'clock tomorrow morning to begin competing for your spot as a Chaser. "

"Thank you very much, I will be back here tomorrow at nine." Edgar said tersely, bowing as he went.

Out the white door he wandered, his mind still reeling from all the mystical creatures he had seen. He walked the length of the white hallway once again, this time with a feeling of dread at what he might face to "compete for his spot".

As he left the building, his thoughts wandered to where he would sleep that night. He decided the bushes would be satisfactory, and, weary from the events of the day, curled up and was asleep in seconds.
