Sewol Ferry

Okay, so on Thanksgiving, I was listening to "Spring Day" a song by BTS. And it seemed sad, and most of their songs have a really deep, sad meaning to it. So I searched what it was about, and what it is dedicated to is truly heart breaking. I legit haven't stopped crying ever since then.

The song is dedicated to the sinking of a boat in South Korea. The boat was called the Sewol Ferry, and it sank on April 16, 2014. Three years ago, almost four, so a little while ago.. But what happened was tragic. There was a school (can't remember the name) but they were going on a field trip, and they were on the boat, right? Okay so in total there were 475 (somewhere around there) passengers on the boat. The currents got strong, and the boat started to tilt. So not to long after it started tilting, they knew that it was going to sink. In order for them to abandon ship, they had to get permission from the government. The government never did anything to help. So until the government responded, everyone was told to stay in their cabins. After about three hours (I think it was 3) the boat ended up sinking WITH EVERYONE ON IT. 304 out of 475 people ended up dying. That's just because all the crew and the captain got out and 75 (more than 75 people lived, but only 75 STUDENTS made it out alive) students managed to escape. 250 out of 304 people on that boat were in high school. And they just left everyone there to perish.. How disgusting?? I mean, this is south Korea, nothing like north Korea. But you'd think that they'd have more care for their people than that! All of those kids had a full fucking life ahead of them, and it was just thrown away because their government couldn't get off of their ass and do something about it. Why? You know damn well that they knew about the situation as soon as they were notified. And they had plenty of time to help, but they did NOTHING. What makes it worse is that after those three days, the government didn't send anyone to go looking for survivors (there were air pockets in the boat that some people used to live for a little while, but due to hypothermia, they ended up dying after those few days). But by the time they did go searching, all that was found was 304 lifeless people crammed into the hallways of the boat. I can't even begin to imagine being one of the relatives of the victims. How tragic is that? It's so depressing, and it pisses me off that they just let this happen. They could have done so many things to prevent all those deaths. Not one person on that boat HAD to die.. And while they were capable of recovering all of the bodies after it happened by bringing the ship out of the water(they never recovered all 304 bodies) NO, they waited until this past spring of 2017 to bring it back up. And by then, they were decayed.

The videos about the Sewol Ferry were heartbreaking and honestly gives me little to no more faith left in humanity. And I'll be damned if I ever drag my ass over to South Korea for ANYTHING. (Ik that BTS is a south Korean band, but a lot of their songs are known to heavily criticize the way their government works)

But I was so destroyed by the Sewol Ferry tragedy, that I wanted to write a book about it. So along with the rest of my books, I will be writing a book called "Yellow Ribbons" Jungkook×Reader. In your view, it will show what it was like to be a Sewol Ferry survivor. (yellow ribbons were hung everywhere in south Korea after the tragedy, so that's where I got the name from)
