Chapter 4

The plane was about to land when he heard someone call Kevin.

Great! Another Kevin!

Seven years ago...

John met Kevin again a week later. They had just finished shopping for Kevin's suit.

"I'm hungry", John said.

"Fine, lets go grab a bite. pizza?"

"Sure"

John took a seat at an empty table while Kevin stood in line for placing the order. John had begun to admire Kevin. He constantly looked at him from the corner of his eye. He spent his entire last week thinking about Kevin. He had had crushes before but Kevin was different. He knew Kevin was straight. Yet he couldn't help himself. His mind told him that it had to stop but his heart wasn't ready just yet.

"Hey! What happened?" Kevin asked bringing John back from his thoughts.

"Nothing, Let’s eat."

They had just finished eating when John said, "Let’s have ice-cream!"

Kevin laughed and then nodded.

“Why are you laughing?" John looked puzzled.

"You said that so earnestly that I couldn't help myself!"

John smiled.

John finally managed to zero in on one flavour after tasting almost the entire range.

Kevin was amused with the whole situation.

They finished their ice-creams and went to Kevin's car.

"Now what do we do?” Kevin asked.

"I thought we were going home." "Our homes" John added sheepishly.

Kevin laughed. "Not yet. You aren't getting late are you?"

"No."

"Then let’s go to a special place"

"Ok"

Kevin drove them to the nearby hills where he parked somewhere mid-hill. They could see almost the entire city from there.

"Wow! This is beautiful! I never knew this place existed", John said.

"Not many people know about this place. I only get special people here."

"Special people?"

"Girlfriends mostly...you're the first friend I've shown this place to."

John's stomach churned. Friend. So I am just a friend.

"What happened? Where do you keep drifting off to?"

"So that lady who was in the car with you was your girlfriend?"

"You must be talking about Samantha. She isn't my girlfriend...yet..."

"So you like her?"

"Actually, yes... I do. In fact, I'm gonna tell her that I love her"

John felt the knot tighten in his stomach.

"Good for you", he finally managed to say.

They were quiet for a long time when Kevin said, "My first girlfriend had brought me here. Melissa was her name."

"How long did that last?"

"Six months". They both laughed.

"What about you?", Kevin asked.
