I stared up past the crook of his neck, watching the fluttering as it moved past me.
-Black wings.
The cloak descended and I blinked, realizing slowly that I was staring upon shoulders shrouded in that dark.
Familiar shoulders.
They were broad, recognizable. Characteristic.
I had seen them so many times now, those shoulders stippled with bruises, those shoulders coated with dirtied bandages, those shoulders bridled with the weight of duty, those shoulders I had watched fall away from my view.
Those shoulders I had missed, dearly.
From a weak awareness, I dared.
Dared to call--
"Hak."
An easy reply carried over the rain.
"I'm here."
My eyes grew round.
Something drained from my chest, lost, just like that. A tightness caved, a ball of intricate feelings dissolving. It came, a warmth that rushed to flood the void.
A feeling I hadn't felt in ages, hadn't felt at all in my captivity, surged forth, aggressively, violently, pouring to fill the gaping emptiness present in my heart ever since that day.
And, perhaps, shoving past the alien that I had become.
Tears mixed with blood and all I knew for sure was the salty taste of both.
"Hak."
A strong gust of wind blew my matted hair back, water droplets flying, and the rain ceased its pelting as my focus pulled forward towards the figure towering before me.
Splinters of wood rained overhead, the debris avoiding my soaked, limp body in a clean circle.
He collected his spear in a neat sweep, and only then did he turn to meet my dazed eyes.
Mockingly, easily, in his familiar, haughty voice, Hak greeted his princess.
"Yo, ojyou-sama."
