Planet earth. More like planet weird. After what happened 5 years ago our world hasn't been the same. Every, and I mean EVERY, bizarre creature reviled themselves. First it was the werewolves, months after them the vampires, weeks after them the mermaids, days after them the ghosts momentarily after the ghosts were the angels and so on. But there's still one of them that haven't showed themselves and those are the night watchers.

You see, a night watcher is like an angel but they don't live under the wings of God (see what I did there! ... no? ok...) and they most certainly aren't holy as they are full of sins, but most have the same amount as an average human being. They also differ in looks, they have large black feathered wings larger than an angel's wings, their skin nearly as pale as the vampires and their eyes are different colours, usually bright or midnight blues, purples or silver. Also, they are all male, besides one female that lived thousands of years ago but died as soon as the leader found out. The night keeper (that's their leader) is the most powerful entity found in all history, he controls the night and monitors every living creature's dreams, most importantly, he is a complete jerk. He kills people for fun and sleeps with any woman that he likes, he's a playboy, manipulative, lures you in by sweet words and crushes you when you least expect it.

Coming back to the night watchers, their job is really cool. They protect people from evil during the night since everyone are their most vulnerable at that time, it's like a guardian angel but when its dark out. Also, did I mention that guardian angels aren't actually a thing? Yep it's just fake, angels only serve as messengers and protect important individuals.

Anyway, this is as far as my knowledge of night watchers goes. Well really that is as much as my father said, you see he is one of them and I'm surprised he kept the secret so long without telling me until recently. As soon as my father told me about them I immediately recognised others that walk around us, there's a few that live in the neighbourhood and actually I'm friends with one, River. River knows my father is a night watcher as they work together from time to time to look over our family, that and he saw my eyes; they are an unnatural violet colour like my father's.

Sometimes children inherit the father's eye colours but its rare for females to get them, I'm pretty sure that under 50 women have them, including me.

I remember my father saying when they start their role, its usually between the ages of 16 – 18. Before they venture out they train most of their lives, they fight with older watchers (that's what I'm going to call them from now) to build up their strength and brawl with some of the monsters at 12 years old. When I was younger I would always wonder where River was during school.

So, now that we're 17 still at school, single pringles, one of us looking like a potato, we never stop to surprise each other during our years of friendship. Oh! I almost forgot, bet you're wondering how I met my charming guy-friend (although you probably don't care I'm still going to tell you!), well you're in luck because I shall start the story of how I met River Orion.

It was the year 2004 and I just started primary school. (for any of you wondering why 2004, well since she was born in 2000 and now its 2017 she would have been 4 in 2004 so ya)

FLASHBACK:

Upon entering the classroom, I look around and I'm met with everyone's eyes on me. My heart beats fast within me and I shoot my gaze towards the floor as heat creeps onto my face. Walking to the teachers desk I gently tap her hand to get her attention, she turns around and gives me a sweet smile.

"Oh hello, you must be Astrid! I'm Mrs Carter your teacher for this year, is it ok if I introduce you to the class?" I nod my head yes, slightly adjusting my summer dress, Mrs Carter goes to the from of the class and I follow suite.

"Alright everyone settle down, today we have a new student joining us, class this is Astrid Mayer." She turns to me and gently nudges me forward a bit, whispering to me she says, "introduce yourself, just say a little about you." I look up to her with begging eyes hoping she gets the idea that I don't want to talk to everyone but she just smiles and leans against her desk.

"Erm hello. My n-name is Astrid a-and I'm four years old."

Silence.

One boy is looking at me with large eyes whilst all the other kids just stare at me. Sweat builds on my hands and I stand their feeling like a complete idiot.

"Ok then, Astrid if you don't mind, go sit next to the boy at the back with the black hair." I finally move from my spot and quickly walk towards the back, I place my backpack on the floor and take the seat next to the unknown boy. As miss starts the class I feel his gaze on me, I glace over at him and realise his eyes are out of their sockets.

"A-are you one of us too?" He asks never taking his eyes off me.

"What do you mean, 'one of us'?"

"Oh, nothing then, I just thought you were ... different. By the way, I'm River, nice to meet you m'lady." He takes my hand and kisses it, a blush spreads on my face as I take my hand away.

"A-Astrid,"

"I know since the teacher told us, anyway would you like to be my friend Violet?" Wait did he just call me Violet?

"Well first my name isn't violet and I'd definitely like to be your friend." I give him a small smile as he laughs a little.

"I'm going to call you Violet since that is the colour of your eyes. So, Violet, since we are friends that means you are a very special person." He smirks leaning back into his seat.

"Is that so?"

"Many of the kids here would love to be friends with me, so yes, yes you are."

END OF FLASHBACK.

He was, and still is, such a charming guy that every girl just drools even at the sound of his name. I mean he's good-looking but he is more of a brother than anything else really.

Coming back to reality, I'm sat in History not even paying any attention to the teacher, thinking about what I should have for lunch. What can I say? I'm a food lover!
