"Theo?" Aaron asked, softly knocking on his daughter's bedroom door. "Theodosia it's been a week. You haven't gone to school and I'm worried. Just please come out and eat something. It's unhealthy for you to be trapped in your room like this."A muffled "I don't care." could be heard from the other side of the door and Aaron sighed sadly.
"Theodosia... Destroying yourself won't bring her back. You know this."
"It's a lost cost, Aaron. She'll come out when she's ready." Thomas said, putting a hand on his friend's shoulder. Aaron shut his eyes, sighing. "Besides, she just lost her mother, she's going through a lot, Aaron."
"Yes, I know," Aaron said, "I just wished she would understand that it wasn't her fault."
"I know, but we can't force her to do anything, she's gotta do it on her own," James said as he dragged Aaron to the living room of the house, pulling him to the couch. "You're stressed," Thomas said as he rubbed Aaron's tense shoulders, trying to calm him.
"Of course I'm fucking stressed Thomas!" Aaron snapped, making Thomas pull away in shock. "I'm sorry," Aaron said, regretting the harsh tone he had been wielding.
"It's alright," Thomas said, leaning back on the couch, pulling Aaron and James close to him.
"I miss Theodosia," Aaron stated, biting his lip trying to keep himself from breaking down. "And I miss my daughter." Tears started streaming down his face, his eyes shut tight. Thomas and James pulled Aaron into a hug, slowly rubbing his back.
"I know, me too," James said softly. "But Theodosia is gone, as much as it kills me to admit it, she is. She's not coming back. But Theo? Theo has a chance if she would just let herself move on."
The three could hear the quiet sound of a door opening and they shot up, all wide-eyed as grief-stricken Theodosia stepped into the living room.
"I've decided on going to school today, I'll see you this afternoon, Father." She said, her voice quiet and cracked.
"We'll drive you," Aaron said smiling.
"No, I'm going alone," Theo said coldly, avoiding her father's and her father's friends eyes. "I'll be back this afternoon. Don't bother to wait up for me." Before Aaron, Thomas, or James could protest, Theodosia grabbed her backpack and abruptly left the house, slamming the door behind her.
Aaron sighed, hurt by Theodosia's cold tone, but yet, he understood. His daughter needed space. No, she needed her mother, but that... wasn't an option anymore. Thomas rose from the couch, pulling James up with him.
Both noticed how Aaron seemed upset, though there was nothing they could do.
"Well Aaron, at least she finally came out of her room."
