Chapter four - Sincerely Lunalyn

1:27pm - Wednesday - Kai's house

"Chicken or vegetable?!" I hear Kai call from the kitchen. I was currently sitting in his living room snuggled into the love seat, wrapped in fuzzy blankets. All because Kai thought I was cold.

"Chicken please!" I yell back to him.

"Aight" Kai says before walking into the living room.

"The water is on and I have to wait till it boils" he says in a breathless state.

"Cool, thanks" I thank him, he is going out of his way to make me comfortable.

"So would this be a good time to ask what happened?" He says in a gentle tone.

"No, I don't want to talk about my problems, they won't help."

"Then what will"

"If you stopped prying into my life! You can't fix me! I'm shattered"

"I can try"

"There is no point in trying, you can't fix something that's meant to be broken" Kai shuts his mouth, unsure of how to respond.

He stands up.

"I'll go check the water" he walks out of the room. I sigh, I shouldn't of been so harsh.

A few minutes later he comes in with two bowls of soup, handing me one he says something.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry" he is gently and genuine.

"It's fine, I'm fine" he gives me a worried glace before putting on a movie. I rest my head on his shoulder as the movie plays. I eat the soup and we laugh at the funny parts. I didn't realize how tired I was, and I ended up falling asleep against Kai.

5:48pm - Wednesday - Kai's house

As I slowly am aware of myself, I flutter my eyes open, I look around but I don't find my room. Instead I'm in somewhere else, it's dark so I can't make out the details of it all. As the memories start flooding back I sigh, trying to get up out of the bed, instead finding a new weight along my waist. Kai is asleep and is cuddled against me. I slowly peel his Arms away leaving a pillow in my place. My eyes have adjusted to the darkness, I look around for a piece of paper and a pen. I start to write on the paper.

Kai,

     Thanks for today, you're sweet, I just can't let you get involved with me and all of my problems. Please don't be upset if I don't want to give you my whole life story, it's personal remember. See you on the flip side.

I fold the note and leave it on his bedside table. I slowly pull the handle of his door making sure not to wake him. I slide myself into the hallway and gently close the door.

"I'm sorry" I whisper into the door before turning around and heading for the stairs. I slowly and carefully walked down the stairs. As I was closing in on the door I was stopped.

"And who might you be?" A deep voice called from behind me. I didn't turn around but stayed looking at the door.

"It really doesn't matter" I reply still wanting to leave the house.

"Don't be like that cupcake" with that I swung myself around to see a young guy, not much older than Kai I'm guessing, he had short blonde hair, and a nice jaw line. He wore black jeans that were a little baggy and a white fitted t-shirt, vans accompanied his outfit.

"First don't call me cupcake, second I'm leaving" I turned to go to the door but instead found a hand along my waist.

"I'm sure if you could make time for my baby bro then you can make time for me" he said in a seductive tone, I turned and looked straight into his eyes, they were dark and emotionless.

"If you want something to fill that emptiness with so be it, but I won't be the something" we stood motionless as he gazed at me, I pulled myself away from his grasp and held the door handle.

"And stay away from me" with that I opened the door and walked out, closing the door behind me. I walked over to me Jeep and unlocked the door.

"You'll be seeing me around, I'm make sure of it cupcake!" He called after me. I got into the driver's side and started the engine. I pulled out of their driveway and I drove home. I drove slowly because I know the monster of s mother that awaited me at the house.

So I just drove, I looked at the ponds, I looked at the trees. I just wanted to do something other than go back to my house. But that all came to an end when I pulled up in my driveway. I stayed in the car for a bit before stopping my engine. I hesitated to open my door, but I did anyways. I walked up my driveway, and up the stone path. Once I got to my door, I stopped. Unsure if I really wanted to do this.

I lightly took the handle in my hand, tugging on it ever so gently. I pulled open the door, I stepped inside making sure the door closed behind me quietly. I put my keys on the key holder and I placed my bag by the living room. Now all that awaited me was my mother.

"So would you like to explain why you skipped school?!" And there she was.
