the blue paladin waltz's around the castle, with the small Dex, trying to impersonate Lance's smug face as he sits atop of his broad shoulders. the child laughs and giggles as the two make their way towards the blue lions hangar bay, giddy with anxiousness.
"are we there yet?" Dex asks impatiently as he taps the top of Lance's head. the boy lets out a soft huff and rests his head on Lance's, his ears pinned back and out of the way of possible folding.
the blue team slightly, whole-heartedly laughs at the youthful galra's impatience. "almost." Lance replies as he tightness his grip around Dex's slender legs.
to be completely honest, Lance hasn't felt this whole for a long time, probably not since they left earth a while back. Lance laughs at his own thoughts, laughing at how happy he instinctively feels happier after know this strange child for only twenty minutes. the happy, go-lucky blue paladin relaxes his shoulders as memories of his time on the sandy beaches of Varadero clog his senses. He hums as his mind plays back the vhs tapes of his past; his youngest sobrino Mateo escaping the grasp of the wickedly cold waves of the atlantic - tempting the fates as always.
maybe that's why Lance feels so naturally happy with this little guy on his shoulders. he has a way to escape the loneliness of the excruciating pains of homesickness. maybe this child of the cosmos can shred away the darkening clutches of his inedible demise. a rumbling purr erupts Lance's rambling thoughts, directing his glossed over gaze towards the large hangar doors leading to his leo.
"here we are my little muchacho." Lance welcomes the newest member of voltron with pride, motioning his hand to the blue beast with dramatic flare.
Dex raises his head off of Lance's and his body lacks as his awestricken gaze falls upon the blue lion in front of him. "do, do you really fly that?!" he asks as he explodes in giddiness.
"yuppers, that's my girl." Lance warmly smiles as he gets a sweet purr as a thank you in return.
"can i fly it? please!"
"no can do kiddo," Lance begins with a laugh as he shakes his head, causing the galran child to pout and cross his arms in rebuttal, "but, we can take a quick fly around the castle." without look at the youngster, Lance could sense the growing smile that bombarded his face. the motion of the boy's no stop nodding of the head tells the teen his offer has been accepted. "alright then! vámonos!"

a streak of blue dances across the black canvas of space as two boys hoot in holler in excitement. both feeling right at home within the blanket of stars.
"wow," Dex begins as he smushes his face against the cool glass in the cockpit of the blue lion, eyes glossed over in wanderlust as he takes in the magnificent sight in front of him, "there's so many!" the boys nimble fingers try to do the math as he counts the stars under his breath.
the sight of the child makes Lance give out a soft chuckle, "your going to need more fingers to count all those stars, little guy." Dex let's out a defeated sigh at Lance's words, his ears drooping to exaggerate his emotions. with a click of the blue teen's tongue he motions the saddened boy over, "awe, come here, Dex," the teenage warrior picks up the smaller being and places him on his lap facing the stars, "there are billions, possibly trillions of stars out there, and you know, less then have of them have been discovered." Lance begins as he needs his fingers through the boy's raisin colored hair, "my home is out there. far, far away; my mamá, my papá, sisters, brothers, there all out there."
"do you miss them?" Dex asks with emotion staining his features.
"dearly," Lance sighs as he brushes the tears out of his eyes, "but that's why i'm here, to win this war for them ... to see them again, hold them once again, tell them 'i love you so much' one more time," the blue teen chokes on his thoughts but continues with a smile, "there may be to many stars to count on our fingers but even though there's an uncountable amount of these dazzling diamonds, i can't help but feel like i'm with my family again. like they're right there, their eyes twinkling with pride and happiness, their warm smiles enveloping me in graceful love."
the blue paladin pauses to take in the visions of his large family in front of him. tears slowly stream down his face at the thought of seeing them one. last. time.
"my papá used to say, 'cuando sientes nostalgia. solo mira la luna porque es lo mismo donde sea que vayas'," Lance repeats his papá's words of wisdom, comforting himself with reassurance.
"'when you feel homesick, just look at the moon because it's the same wherever you go'?" the inquisitive boy asks for clarification. Lance sighs a bit and replies with a soft 'sí'.
"i miss my mommy." this time, the tears that are shed come from he eyes of the baby boy.
Lance's heart breaks in two at the sight in front of him. he never meant for the boy to feel the same troubling pain he did. he only wanted to comfort the boy. "shh, it's alright," Lance cradles the boy in his arms, letting him cry on his shoulder. "no matter where you are or where you go, she will always be with you. in here, and out there." Lance states in emotional seriousness as he places his palm over the boy's heart, and points his finger to the stars.
the boy nods and sniffles, wiping away any visible tears. a comfortable silence floats through the lion, only the slight rumble from the blue lion dares to make a sound.
"Lance?" the boy yawns, breaking the silence as he rests his tired head against Lance's strong shoulder.
"yes, Dex?"
"can you show my the stars tomorrow?"

awe, my wee little heart! sorry for not updating, again. school has been hella stressful this past week ... i haven't had any time between softball and studying for the tests i had this week. but, there's a silver lining! i'm going to be out of school for the next 17 days starting this saturday which means, 17 blissful days with my bed and a lot of time to write!
i am hoping to be very active during winter break, long as i have internet (stupid government and their stupid net neutrality laws - ugh!!)
