Part Thirty Two

The air inside Sreebhoomi was something different. Very very different. Everything around turned  low key, low pitched, yellow dim. Voices went unheard, sights remained unseen. The clock struck twenty five, times never before, happened.

Every inch of everything around slowly melted away, or turned to fine particles and flew off.

Devasena kept standing at the last step of the sraircase.
Amarendra kept standing a distance apart, below.
And there occured nothing else. No one else.
Every existence vanished. Slowly, supplely, distinctly.

Devasena witnessed her soul walk out of her body, and she didn't hold, or call it back.
She draped the finest silks from nowhere, smiled and fitted a three layered lace around her neck down her perfectly shaped chest. Devasena witnessed her soul pick up the finest earrings made from the brightest gold and stones and prick them through her ears. She next perfectly aligned a goldfinch through the partition of her hair. Then she wore the ornament of  seven promises, the Mangalsutra.
And lastly she applied the color of love behind her goldfinch, vermilion.

Everything done, she turned to the awestruck frozen body of Devasena, and smiled for life.

" Aaj Agar Milan Ki Raat Hoti…
(If tonight would be the night of our meet)......."

With this she almost drifted towards the other soul that had left its body in this very sacred moment.

Amarendra stood still while he witnessed the light of his soul slowly emit out of his body and take the form he had known since he had known life. The long uncropped hair, the unkempt yet neat beard, and eyes too deep to drown oceans. He witnessed his soul entwined in the gorgeous royal outfit, a saffron silk jacket, a maroor leg dress and a stoll. He picked up from nowhere chains of beads that fit his ethnicity, and yet everything so blue and violet and dreamy that his eyes didn't blink.

" ......Jaane Kya Baat Hoti…
(Then it would be really grand)
Toh Kya Baat Hoti…
(It would be really grand)............"

The souls flew towards each other, while their bodies stood frozen where they were. The world stopped for eternity. The clock had now stopped striking, the wind stopped blowing, the hearts stopped beating, birds stopped chirping, lights stopped flickering.

Devasena and Amarendra floated before each other, their gazes transfixed. And their lips matching each others curves.

It's been so long

It's been so long......
It's been really long......

The translucent souls came closer, they tried feeling their breaths, in vain. They smiled and looked back at their spellbound bodies, as if gesturing them to breathe, as if wanting life, as if begging a feel.

Suddenly, millions of candles lit up throughout the hall, the hall which was no longer a hall, but a heaven's garden now, with two bodies fixed to the ground, and two souls reuniniting after centuries IN mid air. Flowers began showering on them, from nowhere, and Devasena's soul looked at her body again, as if unable to contain the pleasure, as if thanking a million times for taking birth again, and giving them the body.
Amarendra's soul though didn't shift his gaze anywhere, except for his long lost beloved wife...

Sunte Hai Jab Pyar Ho Toh Diye Jal Uthte Hain
(I’ve heard that when one falls in love, lamps start igniting)
Tann Mein, Mann Mein, Aur Nayan Mein, Diye Jal Uthte Hain
(In the body, in the heart, in the eyes, lamps start igniting)
Aaja Piya Aaja, Aaja Piya Aaja Ho...
(Come my beloved, come my beloved)
Aaja Piya Aaja, Tere Hi Tere Hi Liye, Jalte Diye
(Come my beloved, only for Your sake, these lamps are burning)
Bitaani Tere Saaye Mein, Saaye Mein, Zindagaani
(I want to spend my life in your shade)
Bitaani Tere Saaye Mein, Saaye Mein...
(I want to spend my life in your shade....)

Why did you leave me Amarendra? Why did you leave me alone? Hadn't I stayed with you when you went through the worse? Then why did you try me Amara? Why did you try my love?

Devasena's soul spoke nothing through the lips because she couldn't. But she spoke everything through the eyes. The light of the million lamps made her translucency even eternally beautiful. And Amarendra could read every word she did not utter.

Forgive me Deva! I had forever wanted to hold your hand. I had forever wished to be your banyan tree. I did not die to escape you Deva! Don't blame me this way! I've felt all your pain, I swear... I.... Swear!

Saanson Mein Jhankaar Ho Toh, Diye Jal Uthte Hain..
(If there’s a melody in the breath, lamps start igniting)
Jhaanjharon Mein Kanganon Mein, Diye Jal Uthte Hain
(In the tinkling of the anklets and bracelets, lamps start igniting)
Aaja Piya, Hmm... Jalte Diye
(Come my beloved, these lamps are burning)
Bitaani Tere Saaye Mein, Saaye Mein, Zindagaani....
(I want to spend my life in your shade)
Bitaani Tere Saaye Mein, Saaye Mein...
(I want to spend my life in your shade)
Saaye Mein, Saaye Tere
(In Your shade)
Saaye Mein Tere Bitaani... Zindagaani...
(I want to spend my life in your shade)

Amarendra's translucent radiant arms got slowly wrapped around Devasena, while she breathed hard, reading every ray of his eyes, every line of his skin and every curve of his lips.

Without you, surviving was the toughest job. I tried for a long forty years. Very long. You know why? Because you left a son behind, who was exactly like you.

Devasena's soul dipped her head into the expanded chest of Amarendra. She wanted to sob, she wanted to wail, but souls could not do that. And for their bodies, the moment had freezed.

The lamps blew out one after the other, the lights brightened, birds began chirping, voices began to be heard, sights became clearer, the hall regained it's form and belongings, hearts began beating again, existences returned, the freeze was broken, the translucent souls as if rewinding back, came out of each others grip, moved backwards and got back into the bodies of their owners, giving them a tremendous jerk.

Devasena had come and stood at the last step of the sraircase at 10:01 AM. And now the clock showed..... 10:01 AM.

Staring intensely at each other, they knew finally, their souls got connected, in absolutely....no time.

Adway and Avanthika stood, unaware of what just happened in a nanosecond.....
