Let me tell you a little bit about me. My name is Jessica, and I have long light brown hair, with a gold tint. I have a brother named Joey with blonde hair. My mom looks like me, but she dyes her hair that color. My dad walked out on me when I was two years old. My brother Joey is 20 and in college while I'm 14 almost 15.
My neighbor's name is Sam and has almost white-blonde hair in a pixie cut. She's been deaf her whole life.she came to visit me in the hospital today. "How are you feeling?" she signed. I didn't answer. I didn't have to she knew how I felt. She told me about her school and how nobody could talk behind your back because you could see them talking. Sam also told me about Speke therapy. "Since you've been able to talk since you were a baby, it shouldn't be hard to speak and know it. Maybe you can come with me sometime." I signed to her "Okay."
It was finally time to go home. I was so excited I almost forgot that I was deaf. When I walked through the door, there was my brother holding a pair of hearing aids. "Thank you," I said, by I wasn't sure if he heard me so I signed it also.
After dinner my mom talked to me about deaf school and speech therapy. She said that I will most likely be deaf forever, but she wasn't sure. "You'll be starting school with Sam tomorrow. Then she'll take you to speech therapy." "Okay I'll be fine." I might start liking these late night conversations.
In the morning Joey drove me to school. I've been wondering why he's been back from college, but I can't hear the answer so I won't ask. When I get to school I see Sam waiting for me. She introduces me to her friend, Austin. He had long dirty-blonde hair that he kept up with hair gel. "Is he deaf?" "No, he's just a good family friend. His sister is blind and wants to go here. He would be accompanying her." Austin looked at me. "Jessica? Sam's been telling me all about you."
