"Umm.. I just wanted to tell you that... umm I dropped out of college to help mom take care of you." Okay why was he so worried about telling me this? "Okay thanks for telling me. I was wondering why you've been home lately." I have a feeling he was going to tell me something else but panicked.

"Jessica, this is my sister Cassie. And Cassie this is Jessica. She says nice to meet you." He said this as I was signing and thankfully he told her that. I forgot his sister was blind. This is going to be a hard friendship to maintain. We decided to go to Jimmy John for lunch and then eat there. When we got to the restaurant we got our sandwiches and sat down.

After school Austin came over while Cassie went to physical therapy. We went to my room to chat. "So Jessica were you born death? I know its really personal but..." "Actually, I recently got sick and the medicine made me lose my hearing. No biggy." Except when I went to swimming and my coach said deaf people can't swim.

"If your deaf, how can you hear the timer? You'll get a late start."

We talked all night about how disabled people can do anything they want to. I had went to the bathroom and when I came back, Austin was walking around my room. Looking at pictures. "Who's that? Your dad?" I nodded. "He left when I was two. So I never really ha a dad..." "Well I mean neither have I..." We laughed for what felt forever. Then Austin leaned in really close and felt like he was going to kiss me. But then he backed away. "I'm sorry. I really am. I just can't kiss a deaf girl." "What!? you can kiss me because I'm deaf! I can still talk you know!" He looked surprised as I yelled at him. "You can? Wait that's not the point. I didn't mean to say that. I didn't know what I was thinking." I just got more frustrated with him how could he think such things! "You know what? Just get out! Now!" I was trying to push him out the door when he started rubbing his chest with his fist in a circle motion "I'm sorry." Was what he was trying to sign.

I guess Sam was right. Hearing people are jerks. And now I can understand why.
