Tears

My eyes grow jealous of my heart—
you live safely inside it,
yet you're nowhere near their sight.
So they begin to overflow.

Tears are the only language they know,
their way of summoning you,
begging you to return.

But as you continue to ignore them,
my heart begins to ache
with the same wounds my eyes have cried.

The pain becomes too heavy—
so heavy it feels like my heart could bleed.

And at last, that very pain
pushes me to close my eyes
and welcome the darkness,
a place where no more tears are wasted—
no more salt, no more water,
just quiet.
